I will be flying out of T1 LAX at 6:30am on Saturday at the end of the month. Does anybody know how crowded the security line is at that time of the morning? I have seen the line all the way out to the curb at times at T1. Thanks.

Check the WN schedule for LAX departures around that time. It's the load of WN passengers along with the lack of arches at T1 that cause the problems. When I've arrived there for an 11pm flight, I've never had a wait since all the WN flights have departed for the day.

There's normally no line at this hour during the school year. However, since it's the summer I'd allow at least an hour to clear security. Better safe than sorry.

I did this several times last summer -- no lines at 5:30 and I believe the Starbucks just past security is the only food place open at that time so bring something with you.

TSA website says the average/max LAX wait on a Saturday at T1 is:
5am 2min (avg) 4min (max)
6am 9min (avg) 15min (max)
7am 13min (avg) 19min (max)

The McDonalds at T1 is usually open by 5:30.
Oh, wait -- you said "food" place, didn't you? Never mind. :D

Not last year! And was that "food" comment really directed at me?

This is true; as I recall, it was only in the last few months of 2004 that the McD's was open early.
And yes, I was referring to your earlier comment when I realized that McD's doesn't really serve "food" (joking, of course). ;)
[editing from here on...]
Having just entered that, I seem to recall that you own a McDonalds. OK, I will have to admit that this particular choice of "joke" was in bad taste, and I apologize for any slight you feel. Mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.

I refuse to patronize the McDonald's, Starbucks, or any of the eateries at LAX as they all are extremely high priced. The McD's charges somewhere in the range of $8 for an Extra Value Meal that costs $6 or less at other locations.
If you're driving to LAX, the drive-thru at Carl's Jr. on Century Blvd right near the airport is open 24 hours. Much more reasonable prices there than inside the terminal.

While I understand your perspective the reason most airport restaurants charge such high prices are a function of typically very high rent structures coupled with a "captive" audience. The McDonald's should still have the Dollar Menu as that is a national initiative.
