I tried to do a search on this topic but could not find the answer. Please excuse me it this has been discussed in the past. Simply, as a US Silver when can I use an E-upgrade. Is the upgrade permissable exactly 24 hours prior to the flight, or at midnight, the day before the flight regardless of the flight time. Thanks for the help and happy flying to all.

They clear at 1 a.m. Eastern the day before. It is best to request the upgrade prior to that time though. You can do this online thorugh the "Apply upgrades" button in the DM menu. If you have a companion or your res. isn't showing up online - then call the SP # - if you're new and need the #, PM me.

If it's a full fare (y or similar fare) you can upgrade anytime after purchase as long as F seats are available. You do this by calling the silver line and requesting an upgrade. If it's a discount fare, you'll be put on a list where you MAY clear 1 day in advance of your flight. (Success on this is pretty low.) Call one day in advance and ask if you have cleared for an upgrade and get a seat if so.
Assuming you don't get one, here's where you have to do some jockeying. First check in online as early as possible (24 hours? midnight? whenever you can). Then, ask the gate agent if you have made it and be politely persistent. On flight day, the UGs are given as follows: CP in order of time of CHECKIN, GP in same order, then you and me, in the order of checkin. Some good news for you here: since you're in Greensboro, you can check in earlier than I can in Charlotte for the same flight to, say, Seattle, since you're leaving earlier. That puts you ahead of me in line. :( But if there's one F seat left and a GP decides to ask for an UG, you're out of luck.
My success has been about 50% out of Charlotte. You may have a little better luck. Another strategy to improve your success is to book flights on 321s and 767s where possible. Avoid 757s - too many coach seats relative to F, so you'll be competing with CPs and GPs. I very seldom get an UG on a 757.
Good luck, unless you're traveling where I'm going! ;)

Also, often, as with many things on usairways.com, upgrade requests don't always register when doing it on the web site. Often I can see that there are seats available in the upgrade inventory, but I don't upgrade at the 1 am mark.
Best thing to do is make your reservation on usairways.com and then call the Silver line and use the automated guy (what's his name, Bruce or something?) to put through your upgrade for that reservation. It's very easy and works more consistently.
I'm flying from SFO and my upgrade successes as a silver are roughly 50% as well.

I'll be traveling on a travel agent booked res in 2 weeks. They haven't ticketed it yet. Can I still call and request the upgrade, or does it have to be ticketed first?
