Hertz - When to apply for #1 Gold? and upgrade query

Hi all. Finally gave in and decided to upgrade to Plat. My fee for #1 gold is waived. I'm trying to make a ressie for Aug and was wondering how long the gold club lasted? IE, should I wait as long as possible to enroll or does it not matter?

Also, I don't rent that many cars so I'm not familiar how the car class upgrades work. If I have a coupon for a two car class upgrade and I want an SUV what is my car class that I get quotes for? Mid size or SUV?

It does not matter.

Car class upgrade coupons are usually good for sedan cars only and not SUVs. They will usually say maximum upgrade to premium or something similar. You can ask when you get there, but I would not expect a free upgrade to an SUV when you reserve a midsize even with a coupon.

Thanks Tummy for the explanation. I didn't realize that suv's weren't included in the upgrade coupons. Guess I'm S.O.L. as far as discounts go, as we really wanted an SUV.
