I'll be arriving in Zurich at 0630 from Singapore on Singapore Airlines and leaving at 1650 to Split on Croatia Airlines. Plenty of time to go downtown, I know, but I want to get a shower after a 12 hour flight before hitting the city.

So I need get access to a lounge with showers in them on arrival. I'm flying economy on both sectors, but I'm SQ PPS (Star Alliance Gold) and both Singapore and Croatia Airlines are Star Alliance members, so what are my options?

Thanks.

If you do not mind paying (I think usd 20), you can use the excellent Allegra lounge in the Arrivals hall 1. There are wonderful showers (with complimentary change of underwear!! male and female provided), great little buffet. It is free for Swiss Travel Club Gold, F and C class pax on LX, but also available for other passengers upon payment. Well worth it.

Really? That one has passed me by in all my many visits. I take it there's a choice of colours and sizes...! :)

BTW, STC Silver members can also get access the Allegra Lounge for free.

No choice of colours or size. Just plain white underwear is provided. One set for male, and one for female. So, no semi-transparent lingerie for you :D ;) :p

Is the Allegra lounge available to FTL when travelling from Europe or is it only for long haul?

It's available for FTLs, SENs and HONs, no matter where you're coming from, but it's only open in the morning. (0600-1300)

It just so happens that I am a cross-dresser.

I hope they allow me a nice pair of those underwear for women!

A paying option is using the dayrooms, in the transit area, between gates A-60 to 80 and the others. You can use only the showers services, if you don't want to stay in a room. It's clean, and opens around the clock. Staff provides you soap and towels (but not underwear :-o).

I have found more information here:
http://www.zurich-airport.com/ZRH/?ID_site=1&le=2&d=cnt/ASTY/EN/dayrooms.asp&sp=en&u=1&t=Dayrooms&ID_level1=5&ID_level2=104&a2=104

Hope this helps

How practical, how Swiss :D Though after a couple of dodgy meals in the middle east i must admit that I did resent paying GBP 15 for a new pair of shorts when transiting through LHR (thankfully there was at least one place selling them)

As I'm based in Zurich and usually return home from long-hauls on a Saturday, I haven't used the Allegra lounge before- I just go straight home for my own shower.

But last week I had occasion to fly in from ORD on a Thursday morning and needed to be in the office asap, so I took advantage of the showers. Excellent facilities- gorgeous spotless clean shower, with great towels and soap- wonderful shower head. Took a nespresso in with me. I felt like a new man.

I highly recommend the Allegra lounge.

If only I had known to ask for underwear! My collection could use some variety...

When I used it the last time in December on a very early arrival from BKK, they distributed the underwear in the old (green messenger bag) first class amenity kit - even without asking.

Note that the Star Lounge in ZRH accepts FTL and *Gold and has a bathroom with shower available.

According my experience (last use of the Allegra lounge was 13.7.06) they don't give the underwear and T-Shirts anymore. At least it's no more located in the shower. Probably it's available upon request. I don't care as it was not really the best quality and design. But besides that I really like the lounge and use it quite often even when arriving from longer European flights.
