Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - Are any exceptions ever made to this particular AsiaMiles rule?

About six months ago I redeemed 275K per ticket for two tickets for a OneWorld award as follows:

BA First SFO-LHR-NRT / NRT-LHR / (paid ticket LHR-FCO-LHR) / LHR-MRU / MRU-LHR-SFO, then open jaw to AA LAX-SBA (to kick the award into the OW chart thus allowing enough stopovers).

I would have greatly preferred the outbound to be SFO-HKG-NRT in First on CX, however this was not available. In fact, I didn't find any dates in the coming year where 2 FC seats together were available SFO-HKG.

Now, CX must have changed their allocation policy: there are lots of dates with two FC seats and in fact, the exact dates I need are available.

However, I obviously have a steep learning curve to overcome being well versed in U.S. based FF programs and quite a neophyte at AsiaMiles. I called thinking I could easily switch the routing (I do understand there are no redeposits with AsiaMiles) - but - you can't even switch airlines? They told me I could "switch my routing no problem as long as it was on the same airline". Well, there's no way to get to NRT on BA other than through LHR, so I guess really I cannot switch my routing.

Anyway, is there any waiver ever made to such a situation so that I could get on CX? I assume the answer is "no" but thought I would ask the CX experts in case I am missing anything. Thanks.

I've never heard of a way around it... but I've heard people say that if you keep getting a no, you're asking the wrong person. Persistence.

Asiamiles tickets, once issued cannot be rerouted/reissued nor returned for refund.

Hence if the routing hasn't changed, you may change carriers easily (on the same route) as the ticket need not be reissued. However if you require a reroute in order to fly on the airline of your choice, this simply cannot be done and will not matter who you speak to.

I am impressed by an Asiamiles neophyte with 550,000 miles... :)

I guess it must be a point transfer from Starwood or some other program. It could also be a massive accumulation on an RTW. Could be someone who kept collecting but forgot to use the miles :)

I guess it must be a point transfer from ... some other program.

Good guess, it was a massive (2 million point) eBay Anything Point dump to Asia Miles. It proved to be a very good value for me, although I have hit some snags here and there due to a steep learning curve for the differences between Asia Miles and U.S. FF programmes.

Also thank you for the substantive responses; not what I wanted to hear, but I appreciate the confirmation on it.
