Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - Asia miles v. AA milesView Full Version : Asia miles v. AA miles amateur Jun 3, 05, 5:41 pm Which program is better if I fly Cathay? Should I go under Asia miles or American airlines advantage? Thanks shevygol Jun 4, 05, 12:29 am Depends on which class and fare type you normally travel in. Asia Miles allows you to earn miles on the discounted economy, but AAdvantage only allow accrual on economy fares of YBH. So if your travel is mainly in Y, Asia Miles is the way to go. But if it's in F or J then AA may be better as you can get status quicker and once you've got status you also get bonus miles. carbonchaser Jun 4, 05, 12:53 am Depends on which class and fare type you normally travel in. Do you get AA bonus miles for status when you fly CX in Y (as seems to be implied above) shevygol Jun 4, 05, 2:36 am As an elite-status member you earn a mileage bonus for each eligible purchased qualifying flight you have flown. If you are an AAdvantage Executive PlatinumŽ or an AAdvantage PlatinumŽ member, we will credit your account with a 100% bonus in addition to the base or guaranteed minimum miles you have flown. If you are an AAdvantage GoldŽ member, we will credit your account with a 25% bonus in addition to the base or guaranteed minimum miles you have flown. The above is taken from the AA website so I would assume you'd earn bonus miles on eligible economy, which on CX is YBH class fares. I think platinum earns 50% bonus as well. Chiangi Jun 4, 05, 4:55 am Do you get AA bonus miles for status when you fly CX in Y (as seems to be implied above) Yes, elite qualifying points and elite qualifying miles, award miles (and elite bonus miles). But it has to be as shevygol says Y, B or H class. Other economy subclasses earn no miles, be it status, award, or bonus. B and Y earn 150% elite qualifying points, H 100%. amateur Jun 5, 05, 11:42 am How about K class? jjpb3 Jun 5, 05, 12:30 pm How about K class? K class on CX would get no AAdvantage miles, but would get 100% Asia Miles. By the way, membership in Asia Miles will not enable you to achieve OneWorld status. You need to enrol, for a fee, in the Marco Polo Club for that. WildRice Jun 6, 05, 3:28 pm How about K class? If you're not too concerned about status, you can opt to credit miles on CX to Alaska MVP program. All qualifying fares that can earn miles on Asiamiles can also earn miles on AS' program. Just no loyalty bonus even if you have are elite with MVP. |
