Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - Comp'd status to come from Skymiles?

I am planning a move from the CO/NWA/DELTA group to Cathay or the Star Alliance group.

Does CP recognize Gold/Platinum status with other groups and comp status into their program?

Does anyone know who I can write to or call?

I am Gold Elite with NWA/CO and have about 450K miles from the last few years. I am a loyal traveler to one brand and I am looking to switch.

thank you very much...

I have always loved CP service and planes, but some years back found myself sort of stuck with NWA and CO due to usage plans.

Here's a thread with some info-- and some obvious fabrications as well, unfortunately.

I would say from this thread and quite a few others on the subject, the answer, for a mid-level elite on CO/NW, is clearly "no".

In 2002, we requested status matches from CX that would match our UA PremEx and 1K status; the requests were declined.

From my experience and that shared by others here, you are more likely to have success if you have already shown your commitment and started flying with CX in F and J.

Based in Tampa, it seems like you should change to AA- AAdvantage, or UA Milage Plus.

With AA you earn miles on CX First, Business, and economy (Y, B, H class only). CX has been great about recognizing my platinum status on AA. The milage bonus' are better in AADvantage than Asiamiles / MPC. Do a search in the AA forum for the platinum challenge (1 CX trip to Asia in Business or 1 roundtrip in coach will get you all the Elite Qualifying points you need).

With Milage Plus, you'll have acess to Asia on United and all star alliance carriers as well as access to USAIR flights.

US based programs tend to be much more generous. The only catch is that alot of discounted coach fares on partner airlines earn nothing...
