I would like to book a trip from Sydney to Vancouver some time next year, using my ff points. Does anyone know how many ff points I would need (economy class) for these alternatives:

1. Syd - Lax with Qantas, and then Lax to Vancouver (sorry, I don't know the code) with Alaskan Airlines (I think, in the Qantas website). Round trip.

2. Syd - Hkg with Qantas, and then Hkg to Vancouver with Cathay Pacific (or Syd - Hkg - Vancouver with Cathay Pacific). Round trip.

3. One way Syd - Lax with Qantas, then Lax to Vancouver with Alaskan Airlines; one way Vancouver - Hkg - Syd with Cathay Pacific.

Thanks in advance.

You can go to the table and work it out for yourself.

just put the names of the places you want pick a date and hit the button.

The points required for QF FF awards are all detailed in the tables (http://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dyn/program/usingPoints/pointsTables) on the QF web site here (http://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dyn/program/welcome).

As others have said, Alaska Airlines are not part of One World, sure there is a code share with Qantas but its not available for award redemptions.

You can however fly SYD - LAX - DFW - YVR, with the last two segments on AA, this adds about another 7-8 hours to the trip.

Not sure about the new points table, perhaps take a look online. MEL - LAX - DFW - YVR - HKG - MEL was 130,000 on the old table, assuming YVR was the only stopover.

Good Luck, YVR is a beautiful city ^

Thank you, Tinkybelle and HeyAussie, for your replies. I am going to have another good look at the award tables in the Qantas site. I think I understand how to work it out now.

Cheapest way to do it is on Air Pacific, flying SYD-NAN-YVR - booked for 80K before the points change, compared to QF or CX for ~100K IIRC. Not sure what the new redemption requirements are post 25 May, though.

Another option would be to fly QF SYD-HNL and connect to FJ HNL-YVR - this should be a more pleasant trip than doing the whole thing on FJ - but for some weird reason that I still don't understand, QF Res wanted to charge 100K for the QF/FJ itin, but only 80K for the all FJ itin.

Hope this helps :)

QF miles cannot be used on AS flights, even with an AA codeshare flight # --I tried :( to use my measly 14K for a 1-way SFO--YVR.

Try alaskaair.com--it is cheap to money-buy a 1-way LAX--YVR: US$135.60 to $187.20. Also try aircanada.com .
