Are there any good options here? Last time I stayed at a dive that cost way more than it was worth (can't remember the name), and I've never heard anyone say the Amari is worth the money. I just ran across the Miracle Grand Convention Hotel, which says it's 10 minutes from the airport. Any experiences there? Other suggestions?

I have two to three nights coming up where I'll need a hotel close to the airport, but I'm a little stumped. I'd stay in town but these are really short turns.

Thanks

I've seen the Miracle Grand. It's just off the highway on the way into the city so 10 minutes sounds about right though you'd probably have to pass it before you can turn around and head back.

The one north of the airport is o.k. though a bit rundown. If you can get it for a lot less than THB 1,500 it's o.k. for a night though shuttles tot he airport only run every hour.

Close to airport with shuttle bus service and reasonable rate.

Hotel site for more info http://www.ramagardenshotel.com/ beware this only shows the newer rooms, however you can buy the lower consolidator rate and try to pay more at check-in for a newer room.

I've heard good things about this place:

This is the place I stayed at. It's o.k. but a bit... grungy. You can get a better rate at the various website wholesalers than from the hotel. Watch that the front desk doesn't overcharge you. The airport shuttle only departs at the 1/2 hr and you need to prebook.

There's supposedly another more-decent place that sounds like it's a Best Western but isn't (anymore).

Can't recommend this place. It is like an off interstate motel. Thai airlines uses it for it's non status pax overnight freebies. Pretty depressing.

Not really.

Having said that, a did have a friend stay at the Amari and she said that the property was nice enough for an overnight but getting checked out and getting to the airport was a hugh hassle so it defeated the purpose of being close to that airport. The rates seem to be high there and more than I would pay for a short stay.

Miracle Grand, my wife had looked at this hotel for our wedding in Thailand as they have the capacity for larger events. We ended up choosing another hotel but my wife said the hotel was nice enough when she visited the rooms. I am sure they didnt show her the worst one though..... ;)

If you dont mind going down a little further the Sofitel can be gotten to pretty quickly especially during light traffic such as early AM, I think it is typically 15-20 minutes tops (I think it is about 10km from the airport). I have stayed at this hotel a lot and it is a pretty nice hotel and you can usually find a rate in the 75usd range which isnt bad compared to the rates I have seen at the Amari. They are pretty quick on the check out and check in there so it makes it nice. The LH crews stay there (or used to anyway).

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I'll give Rama Gardens a try.

Good idea. I agree with terenz about Asia Airport hotel - not terrible but definitely grungy.

I like the Quality Suites Airport, available through www.asiatravel.com. In a pinch the alternative, Comfort Suites, is ok, but it's right under the flightpath. Bring earplugs. Both are about 10 minutes away from the international terminals.

The Quality Suites has an ok restaurant and there is a good convenience store closeby. Turn right outside immigration to get to the hotel shuttles for these places. If they aren't full, you can book a room on the spot with the hotel's agent standing around there, but you may pay more than the internet rate.

We stayed at the Miracle Grand in January. It was rather nice, actually. The breakfast was very good, IIRC. Can't beat the Amari for convenience, but it has gotten awfully pricey.

I would stay at a hotel down town BKK e.g. in Silom or Sukhumvit which are conviently located near the the express high ways to the airport. Much better value and more hotels available and it wouldn't take you long (20-30 minutes) to get there by taxi, provided that you go outside rush hours. I can recommed you a basic but very good hotel, The Pinnacle Lumpinee near Silom. Great value; rooms are OK (not fancy at all), very nice breakfast buffet. It will only take you around 25 minutes to go to airport from the hotel by taxi (around 250 THB) Book at siam.net which in my expirence has the best prices for hotels in BKK/Thailand
