American Express Membership Rewards - BA Amex or Centurion (UK)

Just got my free BA Amex. Guess it makes sense to use the BA Amex most of the time to get the exec club miles.

Anyone have any thoughts on what the exceptions would be, travel, electronics etc? From what I've understood there is no difference on the Centurion in terms of travel insurance cover if the flights are bought on the card or not, right?

I use my BA Amex To Get Close to the 15 K spend then switch to Centurion until I want to triger the 2-1 voucher. Then stick with BA Amex as I prefer BA miles too MR points.

Makes sense. The 2-1 voucher is valid for 12 months though, right?

Yes 12 months. But on most routes to get F tickets or even J you have to book a long time is advance.

I hold back trigering a 2 - 1 voucher as my aneversary date is March. If I want to Travel Aug 2006 for example , Dont Want to get the Voucher before Sept 2005. ( I know they extend vouchers 6 months , but dont like to take a chance in case that extension offer is withdrawn).

I am a March to March BA Amex points person, I did my £15k + last month, the first of the year by mistake, I rang them and asked them not to send me the voucher as I don't need it. I still have a voucher that is extended for the 6mths, they said not a problem and have stalled the points at £500 below the £15k trigger point, this was possible as the charges have not been billed to me yet.

They are flexible if you make an honest mistake, I will now switch to Centurion until I feel I can use the voucher, at which time I will just hammer the BA card until next year, I much prefer the BA points to MR's.

Re the insurance, there are numerous posts on it, do a search, you will see that if you do not charge to the card, baggage and flight delay cover reduces drastically.

Have not done the search but it for Plat insurance at least, the higher insurance kicks in as long as the flight is charged to any Amex card - received the higher level baggage delay compensation on a flight charged to BA Amex.

I have just confirmed that you ARE insured to the maximum level of the highest card you hold IF you pay for the 'Scheduled' flight (NOT Charter holidays) on another card in the Amex family e.g. BA Amex.

NOT on 'any card' as Dog asks

The BA Premium Plus card, has the same inconvenience benefits as the Centurion card, it is just the lower cards that have less.

The £15 waiver that you used to be able to pay to cover the £50 excess is now no longer available and will expire when your existing excess cover expires (if you have it)

NOTE The level of death & travel accident insurance on the Corporate Gold Amex is HIGHER by £100,000 than the Centurion card, again if booked using that card, so don't go claiming the lower amount on the Centurion if you die :D

P.S. REMEMBER if you book airmiles tickets or use MR's then you only get the lower level, they do not have an option to upgrade this which I have requested. It seems they look after you buying and spending, then when you want to use the rewards you become a second class citizen and classed as Riff Raff :D They think you can survive on a couple of cans of Tenants Extra Super strong for 12 hrs, instead of a decent meal and refreshments, and a suite in a nearby hotel :p

Yes, the whole Centurion scheme seems to be going to Riff Raff :rolleyes: We are not 'the elite' anymore, your cover is the same and even the Corporate gold give £100,000 more travel accident cover :mad:

This has now really affected me, I will feel so inadequate next time I whip it out, time to return to good old green perhaps :D
