Amadeus, a global leader in technology and distribution solutions for the travel and tourism industry, has played a pivotal supporting role in helping one world become the first of the global airline alliances to complete interline e-ticketing connections between all partner carriers.

Five of the eight one world alliance members are customers of Amadeus' e-Ticketing Server (ETS). Amadeus has also built interline links with the remaining three members of the alliance, creating an unrivalled interline e-ticketing capability (IET). With this state-of-the-art technology, one world becomes the first global airline alliance enabling customers to fly throughout its route network around the world using only electronic tickets.

Amadeus ETS hosts the e-ticket database for nearly twenty major airlines and has developed interline e-ticketing links with a further thirty major airlines, enabling e-ticketing interline agreements between 50 of the largest airlines in the world. Amadeus is able to give new airlines access to a leading network of global airlines quickly and easily, having already created so many e-ticketing links.

Benefits for Airlines: E-ticketing enables airlines to drastically cut their ticketing costs, providing significant savings compared with a paper ticket. Amadeus' common electronic ticketing platform is constantly updated and enhanced with industry developments and IATA recommendations so that airlines don't have to built and maintain their own database. “With the Amadeus Electronic Ticket Server, Amadeus' customers have a state of the art electronic ticketing solution up and running in just a couple of months and save the cost of developing and maintaining their own systems,” says Frédéric Spagnou, Vice President, Airline Business Group, Amadeus. Interlining expands the benefits of e-ticketing to all connecting flights between the interlined airlines and makes collaboration between airlines easier.

Benefits for Customers: Interline e-ticketing makes life easier for one world customers: With the support of these Amadeus services, a single e-ticket can take a traveller around the world, throughout the network, simply and stress-free. It also makes it easier to change a booking, even between airlines, than with traditional paper tickets. Furthermore, customers no longer need to worry about losing their ticket, or having it stolen. Check-in is quicker and smoother, and customers can enjoy the speed and convenience of internet check-in or self-service.

According to John McCulloch, one world Managing Partner, “e-ticketing makes travel throughout our worldwide network simpler and smoother for our customers while also cutting costs considerably for our member airlines. With the number of customers connecting between the alliance's carriers growing – by 12 per cent in 2004 – the financial contribution of IET will increase further.”

Tony Gaskell, eTicket Manager, British Airways Global Distribution, added: "We have made great progress towards our goal of 100% e-ticketing in the past 12 months. I believe by implementing links to 17 airlines in that time, we have extended our e-ticketing capability faster than anyone has done before. This couldn't have been achieved without the commitment and support we have had from Amadeus."

Amadeus' Vice President, Strategic Airline and Partner Programmes, Hans Jorgensen, commented, “Implementing interline e-ticketing for our customers who are one world members was a complex project. However, now we can quickly and easily provide seamless e-ticketing connections between all one world carriers and at the same time, answer IATA's drive for 100 per cent e-ticketing by 2007. With Amadeus, e-ticketing has become a reality around the world.”
