Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - BA V Asia miles

I shall be moving to Shanghai in the next month or so and contacted BA about moving my BAEC to China. They recommended to get an asia miles card and freeze my BA account. My question is would CX match my BA Gold status? Does anyone here have any similiar experiences?

You can open an Asian-based BA card which would automatically be at Gold status on BA, but which would feed your miles into AsiaMiles.

Can you apply for this, or does it have to be a European/Other holder that moves to Asia ?

Anyone can take out BA EC membershiup in Asia. the status matching obviously only occurs if you have that status with BA in another region.
