I have a Amex Plat card and the corresponding *wood Gold that comes with the Plat card. Is the *wood Plat card different? If so, does it make sense to switch to the *wood Plat? *wood is my perferred hotel chain. I probably stay at a *wood property 20 times a year? If it makes sense to switch, does anyone know the easiest way to do so?

To my knowledge, it's not a question of switching. You have to apply for the Starwood card. If you are a Starwood guy, there is no question that the Starwood card is advantageous. I have a Centurion Card, but I use my Starwood card almost exclusively due to the value of those points.
The Platinum Card gets you access to Airline Clubs (3 if I recall) and to the AMEX Fine Hotels and Fine Dining. You cannot use the Starwood Platinum Amex for these. But if you wanted to use your Membership Rewards points for a Starwood hotel, you would have to use 3 (sometimes 2) points for every Starwood point. And Starwood lets you convert their points to miles on virtually every airline.
Free the first year and $30 after that. The Starwood AMEX is, to me, a must and the best card there is. I currently have 16 vacation days reserved on Starwood points.
My suggestion is that because it's free the first year, go for it and decide for yourself.

Does Amex waive the $30 annual fee for the Starwood Platinum Credit Card if you have a charge card (Green, Gold, Platinum, Centurion) with them? I know they do for the Delta credit card.
Thanks in advance!
