I'll be in Shanghai next month, June 15-19, before going on to Beijing. Currently planning on staying June 15-17 at the Westin, which is closer to my meetings, and then moving to the St. Regis for the weekend of June 17-19, when I'll be free to enjoy the city and because it seems to be a better hotel. Does moving to the St. Regis for the weekend make sense, or is staying on at the Westin better in terms of quality or proximity to the interesting parts of Shanghai? Relative cost is not a central consideration here. Thanks for any advice.

there are at least 5 threads on this topic on ft, most of which are in the starwood forum so you should do a search.

the short answer is that the st regis is really inconvenient. i like going to dinner/dessert there because the view is great, but i wouldn't stay there. in fact, most of my starwood die-hard friends even prefer the sheraton to the st regis in spite of the fact that it is also in a bad location (just not quite as bad) and isn't very nice.
