I have seen mention of this card in some recent posts, and as I now own property in a dollar country I thought I would make enquiries about the card. I looked at the web site and then contacted Centurion card customer services, they informed me that UK Centurion card holders can have an International Dollar CENTURION Card for a fee of $1,000 US per year, this would entitle them to the exact same benefits as the UK Centurion card e.g. all the additional platinum or other coloured ones, including another Centurion card to donate to someone, although it is clear that all the services are duplicated as per the Uk centurion card. So OK for your other 5 kids touring the world and an American girlfriend to keep her happy :D

Perhaps all UK card holders could get one of these Centurion IDC's and donate the 'extra' black centurion card to a flyertalk non centurion holder in the US, I sure it would be appreciated, just a thought :p

The idc card whether plat or centurion looks like a much better deal than us based cards. Whether comparing benefits or prices us cards are ripoffs.

I guess it is a way of a US citizen getting a Centurion card if they have a 'very, very' good mate in the UK with a Centurion card, and for $1,000 US very cheap from what I have seen of the US Centurion card charges, plus you get all the same benefits.

$1,000 US is about £543 today @ £1 = $1.84, a cheap way of giving all those old almost uninsurable crinkly relatives a card to get the travel insurance benefits x 6 persons, plus the new additional Centurion card holder would get the Priority pass, and all the concierge service.

An interesting point is, that as an IDC Centurion cardholder ($1,000 annual fee), you can apply for a "companion" Euro Centurion account for half the annual fee, currently €500.

This is a separate Centurion account billed in Euro, which includes also :
- the main Centurion card
- the A.C. Centurion card
- one supplementary Centurion card
- up to 4 supplementary cards (Platinum, Gold or Green as ou wish)

Amex Germany stopped invitations this year. maybe i try this a way to get a Centurion Card http://www.finansbank.ch/finansbank/images/assets/centurion_application_form.pdf.
What are the requirements for the IDC ? (Bankauskunft over lets say 100.000 € like in Germany or what ?). Have heard that you need a Bank Guarantee over 75 K USD to get the IDC. Is that true? Is it possible to get an IDC if i live in Germany and are a new customer for Amex ?

thanks

I agree, but for US cardmember to apply for the IDC, won't Amex need a UK or European credit report?

Does anyone know the phone number for the International Dollar Card department? Will they accept a letter of security, say in the range of about 100,000 USD in lieu of the spending requirement?

How about the US Centurion department? Will they accept some form of security like a bank note?

Mike

I am under the impression that they are holding firm on the spending requirement. There is no subsitute for it, and you must meet the threshold to qualify. I do not believe a bank check/draft will be able to waive you the spending requirement.

The best way to get the idc card is to get the equivalent card in america and then global transfer.

Would you mind elaborating on how this can be done? I am interested in doing this with the Plat card.

The phone number of IDC Centurion is +44 870 240 4500 .

I would suggest to apply for an IDC Platinum first, spend enough, and then
call and see.

You may apply for an International Dollar Card, or an International Euro Currency Card (Green, Gold or Platinum) without problem :

IDC : www.americanexpress.com/idc

IEC : www.americanexpress.com/iec

The IDC/IEC Centurion cards are, like all Centurion cards, "by invitation only". A bank reference ($100,000 / €100,000) could help if you have a very good membership history with Amex in some other country.

But.. since both cards are issued and managed by Amex UK, and Amex UK seems to have stopped issuing new Centurion cards (?), it could be difficult.

(BTW, your link does not work...)

I know could call Amex and ask, but someone might already know the answer. What is the fee for non-US$ charges on the IDC cards?

Here is the correct link for an application form for an Intern. Dollar Centurion Card:

http://www.finansbank.ch/finansbank/images/assets/centurion_application_form.pdf

The amazing thing is, that it doesn't even ask or show a minimum income or spending request, it only asks to verify the applicants signature by 2 persons of the applicants bank.

I hardly doubt, that the UK office in Brighton will spend a lot of time checking every Centurion Card applicants personal assets or income, especially those which are Non-UK!!

And, from what I have learned about AMEX, I also think, that their UK-staff isn't even competent enough to do so! Sorry!!

So everyone who's willing to pay the fee should/could apply for the card.

Cheers

I called Amex and asked. It is the same as for other UK-issued cards, i.e. 2.73%.

This interpretation is IMHO not correct.

This form is not intended to apply directly for a Centurion card.

It's clearly written (under "Apply for The Centurion Card today") , that the form is to be returned TO YOUR BANK (in this case, to Finansbank) and NOT to American Express.

It's then the responsibility of the bank to give American Express the guarantees and informations they agreed to.

Finally, the Centurion Service will approve (or not) the application based on income/wealth informations provided by the bank.
