While many would dispute the legitimacy of any Skytrax survey, these results are rather surprising:
SQ ranked #8 in F, and out of the top ten in C and Y.

I personally prefer the catering of CX or MH. The vegetables(esp xiao baicai) are always brown instead of green on SQ catering. The same veges on CX or MH are always green.. (at least during those times when I took these carriers).
I'm usually okay with SQ's catering, but my on my recent trip back FRA-SIN, I was decidedly 'meh' on the meal, and as luck would have it, I was asked to complete an on-board survey about the quality of the food. From the footer of the survey, it looks like they are collecting information for planning the A380 menu.
To be honest I can't quite remember the meal and what sucked about it. I just remember thinking to myself to BTC it if I ever fly FRA again.
On another note - SQ's offering of a soup-based main for supper has me pleased as punch. I've tried both their beef noodle and nage of shin and found both to be excellent. In fact I've had both items twice already! Yum.

I do not think many will be losing sleep over this..what I call it... 'elaborate online questionnaire'.
I think the fact that SIA did not even acknowledge in an official capacity that it won the most responses in last year's 'elaborate online questionnaire on who any helpless soul in the world thinks is the best airline' would give an indication that the Airline is probably not losing a moment's sleep over this. Nor does it going championing the results on all its advertising like certain other airlines seem to do.
I would say that SIA's reaction speaks for itself. And I for one agree with its implied nature. Kudos ^

I agree with Singapore_Air. Skytrax in known for - generally speaking - being a joke when it comes to ranking.

Try the special meals on SQ. They have a tendency to be better than the regular 'stuff-off-the-cart' at least in Y. As for C/F classes on SQ, I haven't had a chance to complain much with the choices of special meals there either.
(I should probably add here that I'm vegetarian, which, coupled with a bad seafood allergy leads to lobster thermidor and the like being wasted on me in F) :D

While I usually think Skytrax surveys are all BS, I have to agree that their food in F is pretty much below standard these days compared with other airlines. They never seem to have come out of the SARS period food quality and offerings, where other airlines are all back to their pre-SARS standards or better.
Besides BTC choices, everything else is unimaginative and bland, especially when you fly 10 longhaul trips in a row. Other carriers, especially asian carriers seem to be offer more exciting dishes for the frequent traveller.

My thoughts exactly after a dreadful meal on the SIN-ZRH leg of SQ346 last month. I can't remember the exact dish other than it was 'chicken' and it was by far the worst Raffles mean I've had on SQ. I can sort of understand poor catering from an out station to a degree but not from your home base.
I'm hoping they'll redeem themselves next week on the reverse ZRH-SIN leg of SQ345 as no BTC from MAN or ZRH.
I agree with tfung that skytrax itself isn't even worth thinking about but SQ need to sort the catering out.
Meal service on SQ is usually good, although I have had my share of bad meals in J and Y. Food is good in F, although I would like to see caviar back in more routes & meal services.

I have usually found the catering from outstations to be of a higher standard than from SIN. I've always had the impression that standards are enforced pretty rigorously overseas while in SIN they are not. It may be a volume issue too at SIN but I have had the only disappointing meals from there and I certainly never BTK from there.

I have heard that often times the western meals are the ones that are dissapointing and that the asian meals deliver more? is this true? Also, desptie some of the dissapointment, how does the F class meal stand up as compared to a TG or MH F class service?

Hate to say this in the SQ forum but just returned from F trip to SFO with UA. The food was maybe not as pretentious as SQ F but was extremely tasty. My wife and I have always found the Western dishes in F very bland. Some of Gordon Ramsay's dishes have been very poor. I also found the suite much to more comfortable that SQ much to my surprise. I think the fact that the arm rest could be collapsed down gave one that extra space.
That being said the wines, pre-take off champage (actually sparkling wine) in a plastic cup, dreadfule IFE etc etc couldn't hold a candle to SQ

I am a committed SQ flyer - but they're catering to me "tries too hard" (a.k.a. pretentious) in most cases. The best food I had with them recently was in Raffles several weeks back from SIN to BKK. It was simple, tasty - perfect.

Personnaly, I like desserts.
And I think it's too bad that First class passengers don't have any choice of dessert.
On Air France for instance, first and business class passengers can choose between two or three kinds of cakes and puddings, ice cream, sorbet or fresh fruits.
As for the quality of food on SIA F class, sometimes delicious and sometimes the average. But I can assure that beverage selection is excellent, with very good wines and champagne.

Does not surprise me, and to be frank, I think it is an adequate rank. SQ is an excellent airline, but in the catering department, they really need to work harder. If you notice under the F 'Book the Cook' selections, some are even sandwiches. If I'm paying over $10,000 USD for a First Class ticket LAX - NRT, why would I want to eat a sandwich? Not to mention that F and C Class desserts tend to be pretty bad.
