My advice? Move to Iceland and apply there.

I seriously doubt it.

Not a chance.

Yes it will help.

I recommend that you charge $250,000 on your American Express card. Good luck with that.

I'm not a centurion card holder, but my recommendation is that you not worry so much about getting the card.

The Centurion card is not a private club. Its only barriers to entry are the annual fee, your credit record, and your annual spend. While I'm glad that Amex has increased its exposure to consumers with the so-called 'Black Card,' it is ridiculous that everyone and his mother wants one. For the average FTer, especially, who seeks to minimize the cost required to obtain status, this is not a good deal. Sure, $2,500 a year buys you mid-tier membership in various airline elite programs and top-tier SPG, but this is really not the card for everyone.

Although I'm a Platinum cardholder, my favorite card is really the Gold. It has enough benefits and perks to make the annual fee worthwhile, and for those who care, it has the look of a 'prestigious' card.

If we were living in 15th century Britain, no doubt the big thing would be trying to obtain a nice lordship for oneself. ;) Unfortunately for the majority, that's a privilege reserved for the relative few!

Open to all now! Titles are regularly auctioned off by their owners, although most come with minimal benefits and no seat in the House of Lords. Even Princess Diana's brother has sold off some of the 'spare' titles he inherited but doesn't use - see here, for eg. http://slate.msn.com/id/1831/

I want the cent card for the extra travel , travel delay and luggage delay insurance. And then would probaly switch to the idc cent card because it includes more insurance than the us cent card. I don't care at all for the mid level statuses of the us card anyhow?

Why is the AMEX forum so entertaining? Status doesn't care about status....just the insurance.

Those benefits aren't worth $2500 a year. But as they say, "A fool and his money..."

"Even Princess Diana's brother..." is an understatement! Not being a fan of his 'modernism,' I must say that you should have phrased it, "Especially scoundrels like...!" :D

Then again, perhaps this would be a good opportunity for this former British national (by birth, now American by naturalization) to obtain some real status. "UA1P, Lord of Wimbledon, Order of the Centurion." A whole lot of fake status!

They may not be worth it to you. But if you search you can find plenty of posts where people like myself believe it is more than worth it. :p

Definately, let's keep the Riff Raff out that only get the card for the Priority Pass, these people must travel in economy  I can't believe that 'any' centurion member would make use of such a card, these cards are available to all sorts for a fee.

I have actually met a person who went in one of those lounges, he said it was full of Riff Raff and common type people, he travels business class now as he should, better to free up the low fare seats for the less fortunate I say :p

I have even heard of these 'card' members getting in the proper Airline business lounges, you normally find beer bottles scattered around, paper towels on the toilet floor and all the newspapers have dissapeared when they leave

This is a bit of fun by the way, I have used them loads of times :D

UA1P was responding specifically to status's claim that he wanted the card simply for the luggage insurance. $2500 for a luggage insurance policy?

For 10% of that my home is insured, my belongings are insured when I travel, and I've got liability insurance, to boot.

Thanks for clarifying, Doppy! I think that the Centurion card is well worth the money for those who travel enough to make use of its benefits, and aren't always paying for first/business class travel and hotel suites/lounge floors. I was merely commenting, as you pointed out, that $2.5k p.a. for luggage insurance (and a couple of other insurance products) is not worth it!

Amexpete - I'm pretty sure you were being satirical, but just for the record, business class lounges are for the most part not that bad, at least in my experience! I haven't been in a Priority Pass lounge (that I'm aware of) but I can imagine that a generic lounge (e.g. Servisair) is not nearly as good as a branded one like SQ, BA, etc.

To answer the question of this thread, it is an unequivocal, "YES". Centurion wants to take care of their current [Centurion] customers and my father has recommended colleagues. He is told, however, there is absolutely no guarantee, but it certainly helps. ;)

I would say... the answer is probably "NO".
If people are not active Amex customers with adequate spendings, recommendation should not help a lot.

For Germany the answer is maybe yes, that is what the Hotline told me a Month ago. Maybe they changed it, but i hope that they will be not that strict on the beginning of the new rules, because i planed to get a Centurion that way.

Thanks

You could imagine how many calls the Centurion service would get, if they accepted to invite any people not meeting the criteria but "recommended" by an existing Centurion cardholder ;)

I don`t said, that they invite any People based on a recommendation of an existing Centurion Card holder. The old System were, that they get a Bankauskunft over 100.000 € and if the reply of the Bank were positive then invite the person.

Do you have heard something like that ?

thanks
