South - Charlotte - One Day - Places to See, things to do, restaurants to try?

Will be flying in / out of Charlotte on 5/28 to take advantage of the DL offer. Arrive around noon and fly back around 8 pm. Anything you recommend we do for the day?

Haven't reserved a rental car, but will soon.

Hey there... I live in Charlotte. NASCAR Speedweek will be in full swing when you're here so... be warned! lol I would avoid north charlotte/concord mills area that day - unless you want to spend most of your time here stuck in traffic. I'm not sure what you're interested in but Uptown is wonderful and has several great resturants, laid back patios to just relax and the 4th ward area has some amazing historic homes, etc. Also uptown there is the Mint Museum. NoDa (North Davidson) aka centeral ave/pecan ave area is an artsy neighborhood where you can spend the afternoon walking around, shopping, stopping at the pub (thomas st. tavern). Southpark is where you will find "the mall"... nordstroms, etc. Just down from the Mall is Phillips Place. And there's always Carowinds which is about a 25 minute drive from the airport located in South Carolina.

Thanks for the great advice. Can you tell me more about the Mint Museum?

We have plenty of malls / outlet shopping here...so think we will stay away. Are there any pretty parks where we can rent bikes and picnic? What about hiking?
