American Express Membership Rewards - Using MR points to get from JFK to HKT

I don't have a membership rewards account, but I invited a friend of mine to join us in Phuket. He has plenty of MR points, and when I looked at the MR site, it looks like a good choice would be a transfer to either US Air's FFP or AC's Aeroplan, and then he should be able to get *A award on TG's non-stop to BKK and then a connecting flight to HKT the next day. Though, I'm not sure how the TG flight will be ranked, it doesn't have a First class, it has a business class, a premium economy class and an economy class. I guess I should ask over in the TG forum if he can use a *A business class award for J on that flight or not.

Are these good options? If not, what are his other options? I saw Cathay Pacific listed there, thought that might be a good option, and then noticed it was only a certificate award for discounted or companion travel. I also saw Delta and maybe Continental listed there, but I'm not sure what his options would be in those programs if there are any, since I've pretty much been married to UA for all these years.

I thought that AA was an MR partner, but I guess I missed it when they pulled out.

You can't pull out if you were never in.

Make sure to check the redemption rates. Sometimes there are slight differences in redemption rates.
For example, the contracted rate of redemption for AC on an exclusive TG itin may be different than a *A award which allows travel on any or all * Carriers.

Looks like US Air is the best option at 60/90/120

ANA and AC are much higher.

Thanks,
