The Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues, Geneva webpage (http://www.fourseasons.com/geneva/) is up and running now and has some good information on room sizes and amenities. The Moderate room, if those are the correct dimenions, are TINY!!!! It seems that the former L'Amphytryon restaurant is no more which is a little sad, but there will be a new fitness centre which is a big plus.

The slide show is up and running....... but still no further word than "late 2005 opening."

Still, can't wait to return......

The Moderate room, if those are the correct dimenions, are TINY!!!![/b]Back in 1995, I stayed at the Des Bergues, for a ridiculously low rate (an airline employee rate that was the equivalent of USD 130). The room (a unique 'triangular'-shape) was indeed very small (the bathroom was almost bigger than the room, although both the bedroom and bathroom were well-appointed). I was by myself, and so it didn't really matter (and the concierge got me into a sold-out performance at the Gand Théâtre, which at the time had an extremely difficult ticket ordering processes). The courtyard view was pleasant.

In 2001, I had booked a Jr. Suite City View on a Leading Hotels promo and the hotel had upgraded us to a Deluxe Suite on the top floor, with a view of Lac Leman and the Jet D'Eau.....

I loved the location, but it was a bit of a hassle to go to the other side of the lake for use of a health club.

I am looking forward to returning. Was the Concierge Orlando Modolo by any chance?

I am looking forward to returning. Was the Concierge Orlando Modolo by any chance?Unfortunately I don't recall the name of the person who helped me - all of our correspondence was by fax. I do remember that when I arrived and went to thank him (the ticket was delivered to my room just after checking in) I was told that he was on vacation.

The small rooms are along one of the walls of the interior structure - the wings are unevenly shaped, allowing for the triangular room layout (and the walls do not fully enclose the interior, avoiding the dreaded airshaft syndrome).

Can anyone comment on a recent stay at this hotel. The rates are obviously quite high, so I wanted to make sure the experience merited them. Thanks!

Yes, I was there last month. Much improved since my first stay. They now have concierges on every floor and if you book a hotel limo from the airport, the guest relations person meets you at the door and takes you to your room/suite to check in.

This is an historic building, so rooms do vary in size. Even the suites, such as Mont Blanc and Leman are not vast. The newly done Presidential, though, is amazing, as is the Royal.

Next stage is to spend even more on the hotel than they did when they renovated it - contemporary junior suite sized rooftop ateliers with fireplaces, an indoor rooftop pool and a proper spa (2010).

Right now, the hotel runs seamlessly. The Italian food in the restaurant and bar is superb and the outdoor summer terrace really attractive.

You need to secure a room/suite that faces the lake for the best experience.

We had a fantastic 3 night stay at the FS Geneva - The service was truly stunning, and the room was exceptional. This hotel is now one of my favorite FS hotels.

As mentioned above, we booked the Airport pickup from the hotel and upon arrival was escorted immediately to our room for Registration. Every staff that we encountered addressed us by name (not sure how they knew!). The lobby was filled with flowers and arranged similar to the FS Paris. Bathroom toiletries were full size Acqua di Parma.

The breakfast/restaurant was fantastic, beautifully decorated and the quality of food was outstanding. Each morning we went down for breakfast, the wait staff remembered our order and asked if we would like the same. The concierge arranged our trip to Mont Blanc and did several restaurant bookings, and each time we saw them, they remembered and asked how we were. On the final day, I was taking some pictures of the flowers, and upon checking out, we were given a set of post cards that had all of the flower arrangements.

The SPA is not yet built, and the fitness room was small but adequate.

Definitely will be back!

We had a fantastic stay last year.
I made a short video of a junior suite (I'm not a movie director so don't blame me for the quality, it's just to show what to expect).

One thing I forgot to mention is that not all of the rooms have a stand alone separate shower - I believe only the Junior Suites and above. For the rest of the rooms, it's a combo Shower/Tub.

Four Seasons Hotel in Geneva. Because the view from the Hotel encompasses Geneva's most significant icons: the Jet d'eau - the world's tallest fountain - and the Old Town, where many buildings dated from the 16th century.

That is because when FS renovated the property they did not re-do all the bathrooms, so many remain le Meridien standard. They say they are gradually re-doing them.

I don't usually post in this forum but I am planning to stay in Geneva for two nights and thought I would splurge on a nice hotel (hotels are expensive anyway in this city). For those who have been to Geneva, how does the Four Seasons compare with the Hotel de la Paix? I am wondering in terms of rooms and service.

alternatively you may try out LE RICHEMOND - rocco forte 's geneve hotel ....virtually brand new.

also you can also seek out the BEAU RIVAGE.

otherwise as a standby go for angleterre , mandarinoriental, swissotel and noga hilton

how does the Four Seasons compare with the Hotel de la Paix? I am wondering in terms of rooms and service.

Those two hotels have gone in different directions after their renovations earlier this decade: during his short 6 year ownership, the Saudi crown prince spent much more than the industry norm (while still coming out ahead in the end) to turn the French-style Hôtel des Bergues into a lavish, still French-themed Four Seasons, while the Hôtel de la Paix's less affluent owner refurbished the common areas in their existing Art Deco style, while redoing the rooms in a hip boutique style, arguably an intelligent use of available funds as the rooms were extremely tired.

Even assuming some of the cranky old front desk staff at the de la Paix retired when the hotel closed for renovations in 2006, I'd say the probability of getting Four Seasons-level service is greater at the Four Seasons...

However, the clienteles are quite different: the Four Seasons' new name and status as Geneva's most expensive hotel (along with the Beau-Rivage) attracts less discreet guests than the de la Paix, whose guests have traditionally been less keen on being seen. A look at the cars out front should say it all.
Given the much smaller number of people using the public areas at the de la Paix, its service may be more personalized, especially given its lobby's layout (front desk and concierge are next to its only entrance).

Four Seasons offers a much higher level of service and food than de la Paix, but if you like the contemporary style of de la Paix, then Four Seasons will not suit, as it is very traditional.

I think you would prefer Mandarin Oriental Hotel du Rhone, especially if you take one of the new juniors with balcony on the top floor. F&B is very good here, as is service, and the contemporary style should appeal to you.

Avoid le Richemond at all cost - it is a frightful hotel - very poorly re-designed and not one of Rocco Forte's best.

We were thinking about the Mandarin Oriental but the reviews on TA suggest that the location isn't very good for sightseeing. What do you think?

Which is why you should not believe a word you read on TA!

From the MO, which overlooks the Rhone, you walk across the road, cross the bridge and you are right in the middle of the shopping district, and a couple of blocks from the old town, which is where all the sightseeing is. It's a really easy walk and is nearer to the old town than the FS is.

For a boat ride on the Lac, boat stations are also nearby. Geneva is such an easy place to walk around - I have stayed at all the hotels there and MO and FS are by far superior to anything else. Do make sure you get one of the new junior suites on the top floor, as these have big terraces with great mountain views and a real resort feel to them.

If you intend to stay at the MO, make sure you book the top floor - it's a newly built floor with beautiful rooms - I believe the floor only contains suites... If you book any other floors - it will not be renovated. I was very dissappointed with the dated rooms

That's right - the new top floor is suite only - but most are juniors - very spacious with gas fireplaces, big balconies and 'glass-box' bathrooms. Some of the top suites are also re-done, but room refurbs generally have been delayed due to you know what.
