Is it me, or are the snacks changing in F Class? My flight today from DFW to PHL featured a full submarine ham (?) sandwich, instead of the turkey croissant which I have been getting from Dec 04 - Apr 05. A little variety doesn't hurt, so this is a welcomed change in my book. Service was pretty good today - but it just reinforces the inconsistency in service with USAir.

Also, is there a new push for FA's in first to enforce onboard policy? For example, I always sit in row 3, just in front of the bulkhead. Lately, I've been asked by the FA's to put my seat upright for takeoff and landing - even though I am not blocking anyone's access to the exits in case of an emergency. What gives? And forget about using noise cancelling headsets - they have seriously cracked down on this. :td:

As a frequent flyer, whether it bothers the passengers behind or not, you should know better. Don't you remember hearing all those times: "Ladies and gentlemen our aircraft has began its final descent to Philadelphia, at this time please make sure that all electronic devices are stowed, and that your seat and meal tray table are in their full upright and locked position. Thank you, we'll be landing shortly"????????? What's your next question, why should I have to wear a seatbelt????????

Your seat is in its safest position in the event of a crash when upright and locked. Structurally the seat is quite weak when it is not in the upright and locked position. You dont want to die b/c your seat broke do you?

I have witnessed increased vigilance by the USAir FAs on my flights in the past three weeks. I had previously found them a bit lax throughout the past 9 months of turmoil. I'm glad to see a return to the routine. Perhaps this has been remphasized by their superiors?

You were happy with your meal and happy with your service. Why does it have to become a complaint about inconsistency? How about being pleased with an improving FC product instead? Half full/half empty. Afterall, it's not inconsistent until at least your next flight and then only if it goes back to the product previously experienced.

Not specifically aimed at you, flyingdagger, but I'm daily amazed at how people on this board can find some way to complain about or be highly skeptical about improvements the airline is trying to make.

Amen, especially when the OP still doesnt get the fact that for starters, it's not US Air but US Airways. Not to mention that by law, all airlines cabin crews have to reinforce standard safety procedures. You are right, it's amazing how some people complain about things that in the case of a crash, could potentially save their lives.

Why can't people wait to put on their noise cancelling headphones until a couple minutes after departure when the electronic devices sign goes off (or you get the chime on the B737s)? I've never understood why one must have them on during take-off.

You don't have a pair, do you? :p

I have a pair of Bose Quiet Comfort IIs that I use on nearly every flight. I just don't see why I need to have them on during the take-off roll.

Edited to add: And I carry a package of the little foam ear plugs that block out engine noise quite a bit better than the noise cancelling headphones do (if you are just using them without any music device attached).

First of all I was just jabbin ya. :p

I find I can actually hear the flight attendents better with the headphones on rather than off, as they cut our most of the background noise. Maybe it's just that us old people are getting hard of hearing. But in any case I leave mine off until the bell rings at 10,000 ft

Amen, once the background noise is cut out, it's so much easier to hear the announcements.

This is US Airways, after all, so you mean you can hear the static and tinny sounds coming from the overhead speakers better with the headphones on.

Interesting... I have been getting that turkey sub sandwich for what feels like forever...

But I have noticed the FA's are becoming much stricter. One who had been brushing-up on her FAR's tangled with a guy in 1D who tried to put his carryon in "her overhead" which she assured him was strictly for her bags and use only. I looked, and they weren't fighting over the equipment or supply bin, but the overhead above 1A and C. She maintained that FAA regulations required that her bags be stowed within so many feet of her station, in this case, the overhead closest to the jumpseat at the forward cabin door.

You learn something every day.

Had a wonderful CLT-based crew yesterday. The FC FA was wonderful and did all sorts of extra touches, including putting the headsets in the snack basket and handing them out that way instead of coming around and dropping them in your lap.

More impressive, however: she bent back the cover of the IFC box when presented it to you and, with my salad, had taken off the cover already.

She was clearly making the most of what she had to work with. Service was excellent.
