US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - Standard Award Availability to SNN

Hi all,

I am flying to SNN from DCA in September for a family vacation. Right now I am only seeing "premium award" availability. Does anyone have any idea if Standard Award Availability may open up over the summer? The airfare for the dates I need right now is going at $454 incl taxes and fees which is very low, too low IMO to blow 100,000 miles on (any thoughts on that). I don't want to wait too long as I'm not sure how long I will be able to get the $454 fare for.

Also if I do book a premium award can I then UG to Envoy for an additional 10,000 miles?

Thanks,

Sean

Upgrade would be 10,000 miles each way on the 100,000 mile award. Why not book an 80,000 mile envoy award? These are usually much more available for summer to Europe. Also, try Tuesdays. I have never not gotten an award when I chose Tuesday as my travel days, Y and C.

Actually I'd prefer this but I'm not seeing ANY of those seats available at all in September. Do these open up at a later time?

Unfortunately my days are largely limited as I'm traveling with 4 others on a touring itinerary that has many different hotels booked.

Rarely are flights to Europe in summer going to open later on, as they will sell plenty of seats. I mean, maybe the week before, but not in like a month from now. I wanted to do the exact same trip last August, but only 2 pax in Envoy. Like I mentioned about Tuesdays, this is what I did, but via London. Nothing was available into Ireland on US for DM redemptions and I am thinnin this summer will be worse with higher loads overall. (Plus, Ireland is that "safe" place people go if they are still too scared of London, hate the French, etc.) If you did opt to go through LGW, consider that an Aer Lingus or Ryanair flight from LON to SNN in the summer can be as little as US$90 pp. Also what I did.

I would also 'test' the inventory---do 3 pax, if no, down to 2, etc. If you get one seat book it at 80k (or 50k) and hold it for 3 days while you figure out if you want to do the rest as Premium or whatever. Another thing to consider would be a mixed inventory of 2 in Envoy, 2 in in Coach kinda thing.

You cannot upgrade mileage awards with further miles. Then what would be the point of the 160k premium Envoy award?

As for the OPs question, I would say ~$450 is a very good price. Call and see if there are cheap B fares for your itinerary, I know last fall PHL-LGW B fares were to be had for ~$650. Very reasonable if you consider they can be upgraded with only 10k miles each way. Good luck!

I've looked and the B fares aren't there like they were last fall. The PHL-LGW B fares are currently 800+. If they drop, I'm buying 2 right away as its a great deal especially when paying with your BoA visa. ^

Thanks everyone for their help and suggestions! I looked at all the options and couldn't find anything great. My parents are VERY nervous travelers so I just went ahead and booked us all together at $454 a piece including taxes etc. The fare is just too good to blow so many miles on so I will suck it up and sit in the back.

One more question, row 5 is very nice for Y (bulkhead near the front), but I understand that they hold it in case someone is traveling with an infant and needs the space. When do they open this row up for these flights and what is the best way of moving up into that row? I am currently in row 6 with my entire family (we have the 2-3 blocked), just need to move up 1 row! I fly the 767 a lot from SJU and seem to remember enjoying these seats in Y before I was preferred and got my UG's.

Thanks again for all the sugggestions!

Sean
