US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - FA's suggest pax help tidy up

I was on a US flight recently CLT-PNS (Pensacola FL), a CRJ-700 operated by PSA (or similar, I can't remember exactly).
As we began our approach into PNS, after the usual seatback-and-tray-table-upright announcements, the FA tossed in this little gem (I'm paraphrasing):
"If you're bored and looking for something to do, why not tidy up the seat pockets for us. Items should be placed in the following order-- in-flight magazine, emergency instructions,...."
Granted, this was an Express carrier, not US mainline, but still, isn't that over the top?
Incidentally, the 2 FA's on the flight were being ADAMANT that NOTHING protrude from under the seat in front of you, not even by an inch or two, and kept policing this while walking back and forth several times before departure. Several pax were commenting on how surprisingly strict they were being!
So, is this practice of enlisting pax help becoming commonplace, or did I (hopefully) just encounter an anomaly?

I typically hear the "pass your trash" (essentially) to the aisles before landing - but I've never heard instructions re: the order of printed material in the seatback pocket. Sounds like your FA was trying to get pax to do his/her work. :td:
Let's hope this was a one-time event!!!

I've not had anything that extreme.... but more and more flight attendants have been announcing something along the lines of "Jacksonville is a flight attendant cleaning station, so we ask that you pass anything you are not taking with you off the plane to a flight attendant, and check the seat pocket for anything not supposed to be there." While I refuse to touch any food/beverage refuse in the seat pocket that isn't mine (why do people put it in there in the first place?), I will remove outside magazines/newspapers that are inside. I don't mind doing that.

Does that mean that those of us in Jax get to clean some flight attendants? Cool. Now, that will get me to fly US Airways more often.

I've heard (and I think posted about ) some interesting final approach pleas from FAs. Some have come across as *****y and disapproving, others quite sincere.
As someone who is borderline anal and doesnt like lots of mess, I've always filled the bag when the FAs come by - but think US should just bite the bullet and create a "tested / focus group-approved" message that gets the point across and helps clean the planes.
Instead, what is coming out now is a mix of cranky FAs (upset at having to do such a demeaning task) and other messages that have no effect. Seeing the junk left behind by others as I deplane is really sad (brings to mind the old public service message from the 70s with the crying indian* looking at all the litter).
* this was a politically correct term in the 70s ;)

I volunteer to be a clean flight attendant inspector... well, for female ones. ;)
We could recruit Alysia to handle the male duties. :p

Since when does taking the trash that you've stuffed into your seat pocket during a flight and handing it to the FA who comes up the aisle with a trash bag in hand become such an outrageous demand?
I hear this request all the time on my flights and my response is to politely comply. On flights such as PBI-PHL which unload and turn around for a quick return flight, the FAs have told us that this simple act helps save crews a few minutes and essentially helps expedite the next flight's pushback.
Or is the name of the game to screw the next guy in line and complain about why things go wrong with US?

Uhh... I thought the issue was the request to tidy up the seatback and put magazines in order, apparently taking the standard "pass the trash to the center" to a new level.
