US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - Miles to UA/US, status on US

Hello all, I'm trying to bank elite miles in both UA and US (I know it may be stupid). So I have a two leg, US operated ticket in a few weeks, the math works best to credit one segment to US and the other (the longer) to UA. So, question is if I change to UA credit for the second segment, would I loose my upgrade? Thank you!

Unfortunately, yes. There's no way to upgrade using your US status and credit the miles to UA.

But it's not a big loss IMHO as long as you've got an exit row.
