Need to know if my miles are safe with any upcoming merger or buyout of US Airways. I have 3 family accounts that have many miles that cannot be used immediately and due to travel I have (obviously) been out of the loop regarding any last minute merger/buyout news.
I do not need to know who US might be merging with (since I have no control over it) but rather, only if my miles will be safe through the end of 2005 early 2006?
Looking forward to hearing your advice! Thank you.

US monitors this board and they actually close anyone's account if that person expresses doubt over the future of US.
So now that you've tipped them off, you should go ahead and use all of your miles.

Welcome to flyertalk. You will find many different opinions on your miles. This has been discussed many times over the past three years as the management of this airline continued to rape the employees and customers alike. In the middle of your screen is a link for search if you desire to read all the comments over the past three years.
If the deal goes through as it is now being discussed and HP manangement does if fact take over, your miles should be safe for a couple of years. If this deal falls through it could be lights out by the end of June.
In short if you want them be worth anything, use them now. If not take your chances. No one can answer the question.
Welcome to flyertalk.

I'm hearing that once the merger goes through, DM will be merged into FlightFund. Every 5 DM miles will equal 1 FF mile. :p

You might want to do a bit of research. Dividend Miles are more valuable than Flight Fund miles as US Airways is part of the Star Alliance. America West considers US Airways' name an asset, so I wouldn't be suprised if they studied the possibility of changing their Flight Fund program to Dividend Miles.

thanks but the jokes have to go! Seriously, Im not new to FlyerTalk (not at all) but rather didnt have the time to do a search and wanted the latest news (yesterdays) and not the days before - to answer my question.
Ive been too busy working and havent had a chance to keep up with it all, but quite stunned to hear the local news about a merger with AW possibly by this Thursday. So yes, I needed to know if my miles were in question, but of course I cant do much with them in the next one or two days, either.
DOes anyone hear seriously think that if there is a merger with A West that US miles will need to be converted, or worse yet, disappear. Also and I am being serious here, is there really a chance that US miles would need to be converted to AW miles at a loss?
As for US montioring this board, great, I hope they do, and perhaps will now be more aware iof the incredibly poor, poor serivice and rudeness I have encountered in Pittsburgh through USAIrways (and Im a local resident) is absolutely incredible. I fly US therefore I AM HELPING TO KEEP YOU IN BUSINESS, do not take out your corporate issues on your passengers (could be why you have been losing passenegers steadily, dont you think?).
Hopefully someone will be able to answer my questions above for up to the minute data WITHOUT doing a search. Thank you.

I would think that if your miles survived two bankruptices they can handle a merger. :)

Well, if you aren't new then you sure haven't contributed much with a post count of two including this one. But I will still answer your question.
In all likelyhood if HP and US merge one program will be kept and the miles you have in each program will be added up. That is what has happened with every other merger. Still, no one knows for sure. It is ridiculous to suggest there would be a conversion ratio and the person who posted that was joking.

To stroll back closer to the original questions -- any thoughts on how they ought to handle customers with both DM and Flight Fund accounts post-merger?
I wouldn't mind having my no-status HP miles/segments added to my DM account.

Actually I will give half the credit and inspiration for this pipedream to our new found US poster and HP posterboy, ByrdluvsAWACO, who spent many delightful hours with me in the chatroom during the 2-3 weeks when the FT format changeover was occuring. Welcome Byrd to the US Board. :D

I know thee are some companies (hotel groups, e.g.) that let you transfer your miles into their account for use at their facilities.
Does anyone know of any such company accepting US Dividend Miles? We could all protect our miles that way.
Anyone know of a possibility?
Thanks.

HP is the two-letter code for America West Airlines.
HP actually stands for Hawaiian Pacific, who was a failed start-up I believe whose operating certificate was bought and used to start America West back in about 1983.
Purchasing an existing operating certificate and starting an airline with it is easier than getting a new one from the government.

Sure, check out points.com
You will lose significant value on your miles, however.
My recommendation on Dividend Miles: HOLD. ;)

Well, if you aren't new then you sure haven't contributed much with a post count of two including this one. But I will still answer your question.
At the risk of upsetting someone, which I'm, honestly not trying to do, there are some of us who are trying to earnestly ask questions and acquire information about what might become of the miles. Some of the things I've read on SmarterTravel make me laugh so hard that the guy in the next office comes over to see what's going on, but the truth is that in this case, I too am curious about what's happening with the miles.
If we had a "comedy central" type board on here, I'd probably spend a lot of time there, because we have a lot of damn good amateur comedians (including a couple on this thread)... but please, if someone asks what for them is a serious question, either answer it seriously, or at least make clear that your response is a joke.
And yes, I know I don't post on here a whole lot... I do when I believe I have something worth adding. .. and I've learned a lot of great things from people on here and appreciate it a lot!

Do you or anyone else think that there are people "in the know" who have been just sitting on this information about 'what is the future of X', waiting for someone to post such a question?
For example, there are many, many knowlegable US travelers here. 1)Do you think they know the answer to 'are my miles safe, yes or no?' and 2)Do you think they have been keeping the answer to this question a secret just waiting for someone to ask 'are my miles safe, yes or no?' Or perhaps 3)One was hoping to ask 'are my miles safe, yes or no?' just about 5 minutes before someone actually found out the answer to this question and would therefore look good for timing the question so well?
C'mon, think about it. It's precisely because the OP did not consider 1) 2) and 3) that the OP received exactly the 'comic' responses posted here. I make no apologies for being one of the attempted comedians and will happily lampoon as necessary when someone asks such questions.
