Hey, any info about Centurion in Latin America?.. privileges?, requirements to get the card?..
The other day I spoke with a centurion representative in Mexico, and she said there are platinum customers charging 50K or more per month and they are not promoted to cent, she said that’s because the kind of evaluation they do for offering the card.. does anyone know or have any idea about the main points for the evaluation? (beyond traveling a lot and using your card in famous VIP stores)...

Amexboy,
I’m very surprised to hear about the criteria in Mexico! As I’m sure the people who are charging $50k+ per month are more than qualified to obtain the card. Are you aware of other latin countries that offer the card. Personally, I can tell you that in Brazil, for instance, the Centurion card is not available.
Here’s an interesting story:
I have a direct relative who recently moved his family and some of his finances to the United States and was told by Amex in Brazil to call 1877-877-0987 and inquire about transferring and upgrading his brazilian account. He was allowed to apply because he met (exceeded to be more precise) the spending criteria and due to his international spending pattern. The next day, however, Amex told him that they will only transfer an international card to a same level account (i.e gold to gold, plat to plat). He was offered a platinum card with no membership fees and the option to upgrade to Centurion in 6 months instead of the typical 12. (given that the criteria is met, obviously)
What’s interesting is that this person has established an extremely positive history with Amex. Additionally (maybe irrelevant elsewhere, but certainly not in the United States) this person is probably the most notorious musician from Brazil after Antonio Carlos Jobin (composer of The Girl From Ipanema). I might be thinking foolishly, but I thought Amex would want someone like that carrying their top product...

Hey I think that’s an interesting story CopyrightBoy; so an important point for amex is always to find out who are you and how, and where, you will show their product right?.. it makes sense.. I wonder what other criteria would be important for amex Mexico.. because that comment from amex about 50k per month and not qualifying really surprised me.. another thing is that when I spoke with the cent. rep. she also said that this card it’s being given per “seasons” like three times per year or something like that, and that they wont be focusing in the spending level, so I was like “WHAT?” honestly I was totally lost, because I don’t know if she just didn’t know anything about the criteria and was speculating or if in Mexico they have another criteria.. so he he he, I think that stuff will be a secret for a while..
Any idea about how things work with Centurion Mexico? :D

Amexboy, I am very interested in the aeromexico amex that gives you top elite status just for paying the 450 us fee. Do you just pay the annual fee to get the skyteam elite plus status or do you have to spend x amount of dollars to get the complimentary elite status? Do you get the usual amex plat benefits such as priority pass, concierge, pts and insurance?

Well, first good think is that in Mexico you can skip the first annual fee in your platinum card as a courtesy, and not only for your but also for your additional, second: yes you have spend minimums to get the top skyteam status, this is the info: http://www10.americanexpress.com/sif/cda/page/0,1641,19665,00.asp I hope your Spanish is good! :D

Sure sithlord, not a problem: :)
Basic points are:
If you spend 20k, in a 12 months lapse, and at least 2k were spent in aeromexico products (tickets, packages, premier upgrades, etc), then you get the Skyteam Elite Plus Status for 6 months.
If you spend 50k, in a 12 months lapse, and at least 5k were spent in aeromexico products (tickets, packages, premier upgrades, etc), then you get the Skyteam Elite Plus Status for 12 months.
As I posted in another thread, you can get 2x1 certificates so giving miles for 1 will give you two tickets, and if you have the Elite Plus status, you two will fly in business no matter your miles were given for coach class.. so, depending on the route you can get more $$ per mile.. the certificates are also given depending your spend.. this certificates apply to fly Mexico, USA, South America and Europe..
You also have the luggage insurance (delay and lost) also inssurance cover when renting cars in the US or Canada), FHR program, concierge for purchasing tickets or making reservations, to send flowers or chocolates all over the world, etc., you have the travel agency.. mmmm what else.. almost the same as the regular platinum card services… with this card you get miles instead of MR.. by the way, all expenses with aeromexico will give you 3 miles per dollar instead of 1.. you also have extended warranty (I think 2 extra years, not sure) for almost all the stuff purchased with your card.. 24/7 VERY QUICKLY AND EFFICIENT service, you can call them collect from all over the world.. you also have access to the Centurion Club in several airports.. I think is a very good card.. what do u think?.. :D
