I have an Amex Gold Skymiles card. I receive repeated offers from Amex to upgrade to Platinum. The yearly fee would go from $85 to $135. Why do I see all the threads that refer to a Platinum card for $395?

thanks
Ken

Two different cards. The Delta Skymiles Platinum Card is $135 per year (reduced to $80 if you have a Amex Charge Card) and the Amex Platinum Charge Card is $395 per year

Thanks. Is the extra $50 worth it for Platinum?

Does the Delta card offer the same benefits?

Same benefit as in??? Free companion ticket? Airport lounge access? …”No”

Same benefit as in Delta gold… “Yes” and no cap on miles earned in a year.

The Amex Skymiles Platinum does have free companion ticket. You are correct about no lounge access.

Welcome krstone to the American Express forum.

There is very often confusion between the American Express Platinum charge card, with the high fee and known benefits, and many platinum co-branded credit cards with lower or no annual fee .

The "true Platinum" personal card is only the one using the classic design (with the centurion head logo in the middle of the card). The Fidelity Investments branded Platinum card is also a "true Platinum".

The co-branded platinum cards having the blue American Express square logo in the lower right corner, or the no-fee Amex platinum credit card are different products (and don't have the Platinum benefits).

In my opinon, it's worth the $50. With Platinum, you get an extra 5000 miles over the Gold and the 5000 miles are MQMs.
You can see a comparison of the products and find out more details here (http://www66.americanexpress.com/cards/Fmacfservlet?csi=0/20/b/80/0490858788/125081637379/20/n/2/24/36&from=200&mgmID=undefined).
