We will be in the french quarter (Party of 2) at the Park Plaza on Canal Street 2 nights then I'll be flying out of MSY for 12 nights. The Hotel parking is a whopping $28/night and the airport parking will be around $100.
Any free or cheap lots near either location? Should park the car upon arrival in New Orleans at a hotel near the airport that allows 14 days parking with a 1 night stay on my return and catch a shuttle from the french quarter. Any park & fly hotel suggestions? Any French Quarter to Airport Shuttle suggestions? Or do the airport hotels also offer French Quarter shuttles?

The best suggestion I can offer (mainly for your two night stay) is to park at the Harrah's casino in the area. It's closer to the River walk area down canal. Parking is free if you play 30min in the casino. Simply put a dollar in a penny machine and click away. Of course it's a waste of 30min, but it makes parking $1. Have no suggestions for the next 12 nights.

Great suggestion I'll probably do the slots and then reserve the night of our return at one of the hotels that give up to 14 days parking for a stay at the hotel on the return.
I understand there is an airport bus for $1.10 from Canal Street. I wonder how long you can park at Harrah's (14 days?)

In October, I stayed 3 nights in New Orleans, played 30 min each night and didn't have to pay anything when I took my car out of the garage after the stay.

How exactly does this work? Is it part of their player rewards program, or is your playing time validated some other way?
Thanks in advance.

You have to have thier players card and get 30 min play on that card. The first time I parked in that garage, I stayed 3 nights. When I went to get my parking validated at the kiosk by the elevators, they just looked at my Harrah's card and stamped my parking ticket. When we got to our car and drove out to where the parking attendant is, we were worried that we would have to pay for the other 2 nights. Nope....she let us thru..free of charge.
I did play 30 min each night. (my hotel was right across the street)
The second time, I stayed 2 nights, played 30 min each night. Got it validated again..this time they physically swiped my Harrah's card. I got the green light, they stamped it, I left the garage with no charges.
From the Harrahs casino floor, you take an escalator down to the garage level, walk thru a hallway, back up an elevator and that is where the validators are...(next to the elevators to the garage)

I know this is sort of an old thread, but I agree with everyone. If I'm ever staying in DT New Orleans, I will never pay for parking with Harrahs still open. Like I said earlier, put a $1 in a penny machine and take your time, with parking going for $15-$40 a nite, it's almost insane. (at least for us fruggle FTers)

What a great suggestion. I usually stay right across the street from Harrah's, at The Windsor Court, where parking is something like $28/day.
I assume that everytime I want to take my car out of the garage, I need to either pay or play another 30 minutes, even if multiple times during the same day, is that correct?
