A Japanese newspaper reported that the Hilton group will open a Conrad in a part of a building currently underconstruction in Tokyo's Shiodome redevelopment area, after Starwood gave up a plan to open a St. Regis in that building.
It will be named the Conrad Tokyo and use the 1st to 3rd floors and 28-37th floors of the 37-floor Tokyo Shiodome Building. Around 300 rooms. An average room size is around 48 square meters, which is one of the largest in Tokyo. Expected room charges will be around 30,000-40,000 yen.
The newspaper, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun, noted that it is rare that the hotel ownership changes after building construction began.
The Shiodome area is very close to the Ginza shopping area.

The Hilton Tokyo has always been good to us. Hilton does need a "higher end" product in Tokyo. We also love options. Hope it happens.

I just saw this on the Conrad web site:
Conrad Tokyo
Scheduled to open in Spring 2005, Japan's first Conrad hotel will feature 296 luxurious rooms. Conrad Tokyo is located on Shiodome area ( Shinbashi ). It is nearby Shiodome station ( Tokyo metro Shiodome station and Yurikamome Shiodome stastion ) and Shinbashi station ( JR and Tokyo metro ). I guess that it takes 15 mins from JR Tokyo station by cab. I have not checked the hotel HP yet, but ikyu.com is selling the only suite rooms from 74,000JPY( city view ) for a single rate per a night. There are two view rooms, one is the city view and the other is the garden view.

Thank you Yasuki. I'll be in Japan next month and happy to buy you a drink. Thank you for the information. Let us all keep this page going since it is obvious we really do not know that much about this property. If it wasn't opening in any other month than July I would consider a CMR (comfort mileage run) to check it out. Hot and humid.
On July 1, the 290-room Conrad Tokyo will open on the top 10 floors of the 37-story Tokyo Shiodome Building. German Jan Monkedieck will be there as general manager of the city's newest 5-star hotel.
Headquartered in Brussels, Conrad is the luxury side of the Hilton brand. The Royal Suite, for example, will cost 500,000 yen a night, while 68 other suites of 70 sq meters will be 80,000 yen.
It will be the luxury hotel group's first hotel in Japan. All rooms are modeled on a "city" or "garden" concept according to their views. The rooms have full ceiling-to-floor windows offering panoramic views of Hamarikyu Gardens, the Rainbow Bridge and Tokyo Bay. Three restaurants will include one by world-famous British chef Gordon Ramsay.

Other threads say that July 1 is the opening date for this property. The hotel's website however just says opening July 2005 (no exact date in July). Doesn't look like reservations are yet being accepted for any date.
I emailed to ask them about their opening date. Haven't heard back yet.
Website sure makes it look like an impressive property. At Tokyo hotel prices, this will probably be a good use of a GLONP2 especially considering the alternative, Hilton at Shinjuku, is a category 6.
Can any Tokyo natives or frequent visitors comment on the new Conrad's location relative to worthwhile tourist activities/sights? I'm potentially going to be a first-time visitor to Tokyo this summer.

Saw a NHK news report "lifestyle" section a couple months back on TV when they profiled several newcomers to Tokyo "premium" hotel landscape. Conrad was one of the hotels featured.
It looks like a lot of Asian Conrads - minimalist, new-edge rooms with Japanese tea service set. Lobby was minimalist (like Conrad BKK) as well. A large portion of the news segment on the Conrad talked about how the European GM was selecting tabletops for the restaurants with a flower motif.

I personally inspected the exterior of this hotel last month (April) and took a peek inside the lobby. It looks fabulous. The location is tremendously convenient for subway and monorail access. Those who have stayed at the InterContinental Tokyo Bay will be familiar with the monorail line that goes through this area, however the location of the Conrad is much more convenient than the IC. I'm looking forward to experiencing this property as a guest!

Yes,It's brand new,and If I remember correctly....that property should have been operated as 'St. Regis TOKYO' from 05/Mar.(I don't know what happened to them...Don't ask me ;) ) Also, their WEB-site indicating 42,300JPY(advanced purchase) ~ 57,000JPY. So would that mean, that if i am diamond and atm doing the double base points promo .
i would get 5 x basepoints + 50 Diamond bonus?
so for the room of 38k yen,
this would be 380USD X10 X 5 = 19000 + 1900 (Dia. Bonus) = 20900
Thats nice if you have to stay anyway at that hotel .

(20K are two free nights at the Hilton Phuket - room rate there is 80USD atm so you only pay 200 USD for a night in the new conrad. i think is a cool deal , but i am not sure if you can combine 2 promos...)

Has anyone successfully booked a reward stay at the new Conrad Tokyo?
When I call for availability (01/01/06 - 01/03/06) they say there are no more available rewards (implying that all rewards have been booked). But I've been trying since Hilton first announced the new hotel. I'm wondering if they have just not made any rooms available for rewards (which is technically a violation of the rules as I understand it) or if they have actually booked all of the reward nights.
Thanks,

I went to the Conrad Tokyo one day after it opened. It looks quite nice, with a great 28th floor lobby overlooking the Hama Rikyu imperial gardens. There's a Gordon Ramsay restaurant there. I did not eat or drink anything, but the lobby was full of people gawking and partaking of the restaurants and bars. Looks like stiff competition for the GHT, and the lobby is almost as nice as the PHT.
The only downside is the fact that it is a hike from anything except the Yurikamome line (which you could take one stop to Shimbashi), and it is very hard to find both the hotel and the entrance.

Yeah. I've stayed at the Hilton Tokyo (Shinjuku) several times. It's a great property.
Being that the Conrad is SO new...that's why it's surprising that they've already filled all of their rewards since they only started taking reservations a few weeks ago, and I've been trying since that time to get a rewards reservation for the beginning of January (i.e. 6+ months in advance). I suspect that they have not made any rooms available for rewards yet. Technically this is a violation of the written rules , as I understand them. They're supposed to allocate some rooms and have the schedule 12 months in advance. Granted it's only opened/opening this month...but they've known about this opening for a while...so that shouldn't affect their reservations Dept. I shouldn't think.

Hmmm...I guess you get different answers from different people. I was told by a CSR that they are supposed to have their calendar 12 months in advance as far as availability and rewards reservations. It could be that the CSR I spoke with was incorrect.

Hi,
currently i have booked 4 rooms in the Conrad Tokyo .
we will be 8 persons and would like to stay 4 +4 in two Grand suites.
I booked the most expensive executive seaview rooms, there was not room more expensive than this, all are Hilton Diamond or Hilton Gold, so i wonder if they will offer us 2 suites instead of the 4 rooms?
Does anybody know if they have any suites there?
We would not mind to pay for a presidential suite too , but there is nothing mentioned at the conrad hp.
may be someone can help??

It has been my experience at such hotels that suites are booked directly with the property themselves, and not over the chain's booking sites. This is how I handle my suite bookings at properties.

i did that. and changed all reservation to 2 deluxe suites in the 37th floor.
120qm in japan is quite inpressive eh..
but we are still hoping to be upgraded to the 240qm suites...
i dont know why they are not marketing the suites on the homepages...
sweet as candy the agreed that they will honor the triple point opening plan even for the suite bookings. so this will net us 120K hilton points with this stay.

It is "too" cold here if you're used to Los Angeles - We have cloudless skies, which make for chilly mornings... Wrap up warm! (I was comfortable today in my trench coat, with an inner liner and a scarf - without hat or gloves).
Luckily Tokyo seems to be better than the rest of the country (huge snow falls in many places).
The walk from Shimbashi to the Conrad is no problem at all. If the weather is fine, then I would recommend using the elevated walkways. When you come out of Shimbashi station, take the escalator up to the Yurikamome station and walk towards Hamarikyu.
If the weather is dreadfull, then you can do the same journey underground. It's a bit more challenging to find your way through the underground walkways - so consult the maps on the walls and ask people for directions towards Shiodome (the Oedo line station). When you get there, you're near to the Conrad.
Enjoy your stay !

Sure...no problem. If I forget and don't post after I get back (mid-January), feel free to PM me a reminder. From the previous posts on this board though, it sounds as if the Conrad is a nicer hotel (although perhaps less willing to upgrade). Being nicer than the Hilton Tokyo is no small feat either since I personally like the Hilton Tokyo VERY much.
You might also want to think about what your plans are for Tokyo, since the hotels are on opposite sides of the city.
The Conrad is on the east side, near the Hama Rikyu Gardens, Ginza, the Tsukiji Fish Market (if you feel like getting up REAL EARLY), and the Tokyo Tower, and is in closer proximity to Ueno Park, Asakasa, the Tokyo Imperial Palace and the Diet Building (Japanese parliament), among other things.
On the other hand, the Hilton Tokyo is in Shinjuku on the West side. It's near the Metropolitan Government Office Buildings (in Shinjuku), the Shinjuku National Garden, and in closer proximity to the Meiji Shrine and Harajuku (the trendy area now famously mis-pronounced in Gwen Stefani's songs).

I haven't stayed at this property but my experience has been usually positive at various US properties. Quite often on business trips, I've requested and managed to get additional b'fast certs or Gym passes for a colleague staying at the same Hilton property.
Also, successfully requested certs for four adults (self + wife, and another couple) on at least two occasions.
I guess it depends on how you ask, and whether you can be discrete about it. Since you are requesting additional certs for kids, I would be surprised if they would decline to honor your request.

dont eat in the room, as you wont get anything without paying extra.

If you don't care about executive rooms, which are available only with city view, then I would take ocean view room (=garden view). In the city view rooms the view is partly blocked by couple of high rise buildings nearby. My first choises are the executive rooms with city view then classic ocean room and after that classic city view.

Stayed there a while ago, but ever since then, I have been wondering what are the sweets (in various flavors) they leave on trays in the rooms the first day. I was in Zurich last week, and a visit to the Sprüngli confectionary had me thinking it was Luxemburgerli (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luxemburgerli).
Is that what they are, or is it something else?
Thanks! ^

Prashok...I think that is what they are...I was there last September and ate all of them in one sitting, they were so light....anyone else can confirm that??

I notice there are block out dates from 10/4-8 I think. What is the reason for the blockout? national holiday in japan in early october?

I just booked a reward stay for 3 nights at this hotel (for travel in August).
There will be 3 guests, with the room in the Diamond member's name. (The room was booked for 2 guests, but I put in a note in the comments box about requesting a roll-away bed for the 3rd guest.) Will this be a major problem?
I'm quite happy to pay the supplement of 5000-6000 yen (as mentioned above in this thread) for the extra bed. But do I need to contact the hotel in advance about this to request it or can it just be sorted at check-in?
And also, any experiences on lounge access, breakfast, upgrades as a Diamond would be much appreciated!

Any advice, or is everyone avoiding the Tokyo Conrad these days!? :)

We stayed at the Conrad Tokyo four four nights, somewhat of a letdown after six nights on the same trip at the Conrad Singapore, and two nights at the Hilton Osaka (w/ lounge). I'm HH Gold, had an upgrade in Singapore to the exec level and lounge. Got to the Conrad Tokyo, room wasn't ready, was told we could wait in the restaurants or bar for three hours. asked about the exec lounge, told I couldn't use it as I hadn't been upgraded to the exec floor. I noted that I was HH Gold, was told they didn't have an HHonors lounge! I told the lady behind the desk that we weren't going to wait in the restaurant, she suddenly had a room for us. I ended up calling the manager, who gave us lounge access without a fight. Really sad service. I was surprised because I've lived in Japan and the service used to be better. But the society is quite rigid, so "no exec floor, no lounge" is the rules. So if there's something written about max. guests per room, that's probably inflexible. Great country and people, though, just quite rigid at times.

Do you happen to recall the Manager you spoke with since I'll be arriving this property next week as a "lowly" gold too.

While your experience doesn't seem to be the "norm" - based on most of the posts in this forum...it's much more like the experience I had when staying at this property.
Though most people seem to LOVE the Conrad Tokyo...my prior experiences at the Hilton Tokyo (Shinjuku) were MUCH better than my one experience at the Conrad Tokyo and the Conrad Tokyo was nothing like the experiences I have had from the Conrad Hong Kong (my favorite hotel).

There is a great thread in the Japan forum (http://flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=608899) on getting to the Conrad from Narita, particularly useful information for morning arrivals before the limo bus is running.

Cool hotel and well worth the points in my estimation - especially if you get an Exec floor upgrade.

Amazing hotel w/ great views of Tokyo Bay and of the city. The executive lounge is also very nice and they serve a very nice made to order breakfast and free drinks in the evening. It's also right on top of the metro so it's super convenient to get to/from.

I was there last Thanksgiving and thought it was a fantastic property. It was walking distance to Ginza, the fish market, and many other sights. Well worth 40,000 a night.

I stayed there for three nights last month and it was one of the best hotel stays I've ever had (and I travel A LOT.) The service was truly exta-ordinary and the physical facility is interesting and comfortable at the same time.
Request a room overlooking the waterfront...it's fascinating.

I am trying to decide whether to spend the points. From the few posts above, it seems like a good deal. I might just bite for the 3 days I'll be in Tokyo next month - anyone been here lately?
Side question - how does one get from NRT to the Conrad
Cheers

In my opinion the Friendly limousine bus is the most practical way of getting to the Conrad.
