Is there another URL to get to FT from a BB?
Travel Technology - Flyertalk URL for a Black BerryView Full Version : Flyertalk URL for a Black Berry back seat May 5, 05, 9:37 pm Is there another URL to get to FT from a BB? ScottC May 5, 05, 9:40 pm Try this one: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/archive/index.php Middle_Seat May 8, 05, 6:37 pm Looks like I need to do some more reading of the BB manual. I can see things like MilesBuzz, and a list of page numbers, but can't actually read any postings. Craig6z May 9, 05, 6:11 am Middle_Seat, That's the same problem I have. Could be the older browser (3.7.x) on my unit. Craig SNA_Flyer May 9, 05, 1:25 pm What is a good Blackberry Browser? My new employer just gave me a Nextel BB 7520, and I'm kind of less than impressed with the included browser. cheapie May 9, 05, 3:14 pm the browser is teh sux. terrible. but i don't really need the browser so...shrug... ScottC May 9, 05, 4:05 pm If you have a T-mobile blackberry and are still on an OS < version 4.0 then head over to www.blackberryforums.com and do a search for the "RBRO hack", it is a quick configuration that changes the browser from WAP only to WAP and HTML. Out of the box a T-mobile handheld won't do HTML pages correctly (or at all). Craig6z May 9, 05, 6:46 pm I'm using AT&T/Cingular :( ScottC May 9, 05, 6:50 pm I'm using AT&T/Cingular :( Might work on them too... In your browser, go to Options then type R B R O You should see a new menu item appear. Go to "Browser options" I think it is called "browsing mode", it will be set to "WML Only", change it to "unconstrained". Click the wheel and save the options... robb May 10, 05, 8:20 pm I had the opposite problem. I could browse FT just fine with 3.7 (AT&T Wireless with a separate MDS), but since upgrading to 4.0, FlyerTalk is unusable due to all the javascript that the blackberry now understands and wastes time loading. I could browse FT just fine with 3.7 (AT&T Wireless with a separate MDS), but since upgrading to 4.0, FlyerTalk is unusable due to all the javascript that the blackberry now understands and wastes time loading. I just got my BB 7290 last Thursday, so I am not an expert . . .but it seems that under 4.0 you can enable/disable javascript support. But what I find is that while many sites are really slow with javascript enabled, many are unusable with it disabled. The ideal solution would be for all major websites to provide a handheld friendly version (see google.com/xhtml for an example) that would not use javascript, excess graphics, etc. But since spg.com, ua.com and various other travel sites are not extremely responsive to customer's wants and needs, the solution is going to need to come from the device itself. It would be nice if the BB allowed multiple instances of the browser with different configurations (e.g. fast bare bones, as well as javascript enabled), or even better provide a shortcut to enable disable javascript support. The ability to keep a list of certain pages/sites that should or should not make use of certain features would probably be best, although a major pain for the user to set up. Tax Dude May 11, 05, 11:23 am I used to read and post to FT all the time from my old 950. It just ignored all the images and java stuff giving me only the text. It was about as fast as dial-up from home! Now with my new 7290 it's just too much of a pain. The archive link given above is not bad, although for some reason it's displaying the posts in reverse-date order. The first time I used it I thought they were latest-first. uastarflyer May 11, 05, 7:54 pm I hope i never figure out how to get to FT on my 7290/Cingular. That last shred of productivity will be shot! (Just for grins...Does that R B R O trick work?) JeffS May 12, 05, 10:07 am The RBRO hack does not work on V4 Blackberry software. VPescado May 12, 05, 10:54 am The RBRO hack does not work on V4 Blackberry software. Yes, but under 4.0 it is not needed as the option is already there. BTW I am sending this from my Blackberry. :) ABQ Jon May 12, 05, 12:10 pm ... The archive link given above is not bad, although for some reason it's displaying the posts in reverse-date order. The first time I used it I thought they were latest-first. They are, sort of. The threads are in date order based on the date of the first post to the thread. Which makes it a little challenging to follow new activity on older threads. Craig6z May 12, 05, 1:30 pm Might work on them too... Scott, When I go into options, I get to choices: "Browser Configuration" and "General Properties". If I click on Browser Config I have no obviously place to enter RBRO. Very little is available for change, submenus appear to have been turned off by AT&T. The line that says "Content Mode: WML Only" can not be modified. The line for "Emulation Mode: Blackberry" also does not have any choices. Thanks for the ideas, though. I've surfed thru every menu in the mMode browser module and the status icon, to no avail. Guess I'm stuck with just surfing MSN and Yahoo on my toy (oh yeah, and getting company email ;) ) Craig >>>>> VPescado May 12, 05, 1:41 pm The line that says "Content Mode: WML Only" can not be modified. Craig, That option should be selectable to WML & HTML. I am assuming that you are on 4.0 and that you are familiar with changing options. My next question is are you using BES (i.e. is your blackberry tightly coupled with your email account at work)? I believe that your BES administrator has the ability to lock down a lot of the options/features. Assuming that you are not, you may want to push your browser service books to your handheld. I believe that this should be an option from the BWC webpage for AT&T. If this doesn't work, you might just want to get on the phone with AT&T. -Mark PS. If all this fails, ask on blackberryforums.com. Theyt are the FT for BB's. :) Craig6z May 12, 05, 9:03 pm Craig, That option should be selectable to WML & HTML. As to "BES", while I am not familiar with this term, you are correct in that the BB is closely tied to our Enterprise Lotus Notes system. As mail gets to my Notes mail client, it is immediately pushed to the BB. Often it even hits the BB a couple of seconds before the WAN! Suspect you're right that our mail administrators do have a lot of features locked down (we are Fortune 500, with much of our mail admin outsourced to CSC). I attempted again to change any setting in the browser config screen, but so little allows multiple options. :td: I'll wander over to the bulletin board when I have a few hours and see if anything pops up. But for now, I'm going on the premise our network admins don't trust us road warriors. Craig6z Jul 25, 05, 8:00 pm I finally took the time to study this problem carefully, via the www.blackberryforums.com site. A bit of tweaking and a hack or two, and voila, pretty decent browsing via 3.7. Flyertalk Lite works, albeit slowly. Craig6z Jul 25, 05, 9:40 pm I assume you did the "RBRO" tweak? That did the trick. You just have to study the screens for a minute or so, to figure out the protocols. Some of the nomenclature on the Blackberry board is slightly different then what you see on the handheld. Appreciate the assistance. ^ |
