Hi All,

I would be grateful if someone could help me out with this query. I will be travelling to Apia and was wondering what is the best way to transit on the way back?

I leave on the 18th Apia with Air NZ arriving in AKL where I catch a QF flight to SYD in the afternoon.

Would it be possible to check-in in APW to SYD as I don't want to pay departure tax again? Or is there a transfer desk at AKL which I could turn too?

All help greatly excepted.

You'll need to check in for the QF flight at transit desk in AKL Int terminal (unless you particularly want to clear immigration and use check-in desk landside).

Any transit under 24 hours is exempt from departure tax (get exemption sticker from BNZ outlet if you want to go landside).

For more info on AKL airport see this thread (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=362925).

Edited to add - looks like you have quite a long transit on 19th May (gain a day between Samoa and NZ), arriving 8:45am and SYD flight departs at 1:25pm or later. You may want to head into the city (will miss rush hour traffic fortunately).

Thanks Kiwi Flyer,

Would there be any problems with luggage transfer? would I need to pick that up before transfer? and also will by flying Y class to AKL and J to SYD will they tag by bags properly.

Thanks for your advice

NZ & QF do interline, so as long as you can show APW checkin your QF (e-)ticket they should be able to tag the bags right through to SYD (but unlikely to get a priority tag unless you check-in with bags for AKL-SYD at AKL).

Of course you have plenty of time to collect bags and check-in if they cant tag them through.

Thanks,

I do have a long transit time but I manage to get some good work done. Hopefully the lounge will have some business facilities.

I am actually flying with a BA code on a QF flight that afternoon just to confuse the matter even more.

One final query - If I do go out to check-in land side would there be any problems for such an early checkin? (about 6 hours early)?

QF have lots of flights, although none late morning. Not sure if they close the counters for a couple hours or keep them open - most likely keep them open but someone else may know for sure.

As you're flying on QF in business you can use the QF premium check in (almost at far end of terminal from arrivals).

QF lounge has a business centre.
