Ill be in Singapore on the 21st of this month and found a great rate of $80 USD for a room at the 5-star Royal Plaza on Scotts. I wondered if anyone has stayed there and if so. could they tell me what its like.

It looks great and rooms have a FREE mini-bar with 1 beer, 3 soft drinks and water so it seems like a great value.

That's a great rate...I was last there in '02 and upgraded to a deluxe club room. Excellent lounge, my fav was the free-flowing cappuccinos. Close to Orchard Rd and across the street from the Hyatt. http://www.royalplaza.com.sg is the web addy. The Summit chain also has a 5-star resort on Sentosa that I stayed at in '02 that I highly recommend.

I'll have to cast a dissenting vote on this one. The Royal Plaza is a bit old and worn around the edges, there's nothing much wrong with it but there are just so many more interesting places in Singapore in the same price range... and don't expect very much from the free minibar (well, there is a can of beer in there, which I found a little surprising in a hotel owned by the Sultan of Brunei but hey...). Location is great though, about as central as it gets.

Yes. I seem to recall that years ago it was called Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza... which is funny because Holiday Inn and Crowne Plaza are two separate brands now.

Going further back, it was known just as "Holiday Inn".

Maybe it was called "Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza" because it was more than a Holiday Inn, but not quite a Crowne Plaza :)

Perhaps you could be a NICE Flyertalk OP and tell us all where you managed to get this rate from? :D
