Not a significant order as AC and AI, but it is important to have an European carrier ordering the 787.

I agree, but more importantly, one additional order for B787=one less order available for the required number to launch A350. I know Airbus was only offering the A330 as a competing product against B787 in this deal, but the more sucessful the B787 program is, the less likely it is for Airbus to launch A350.

Just out of curosity, is it true that there are no current order for the B787 from any Europe based airline?

Icelandair and Blue Panorama I think are the only ones so far from Europe.

The Boeing Co. has the inside track on a jet purchase by LOT, Poland's national airline, according to a Thursday online report by Reuters.

Looks to be all but formally announced now - http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/business/223105_boeinglot06.html.

LOT Polish Airlines notified Boeing that it will order six of its 787s as replacements for its Boeing-made but aging 767s, an industry source confirmed yesterday. The decision ends one of Europe's most closely watched order of battles because of the political pressure that was applied from both sides of the Atlantic.

While small in size, this win is huge in stature as Poland is a huge trading partner with France and Germany and they both lobbied all the way up to their respective Offices of the President to land this deal for the A350 (which was being considered along with the A330).

So that makes the current score 255 to 10 for the 787 vs. the A350.

SEA_Tigger, who actually ordered the A350? Perhaps AF or LH? From what I have heard, the current plan for A350 is only a modified version of the current A330. Why would anyone want a plane like that? If Airbus were to design the A350 from scratch, how want would it take for it to begin production for commerical flights?

Air Europa of Spain has ordered 10. That's it.

Who indeed. Airbus sold a lot of A330s by asking that same question to those considering Boeing 767-300s and 767-400s. Now they're seeing the same thing happen to them with the 787. :)

The A350 was expected to enter service in 2010, two years after the 787. If they build from the ground up, expect 2012. If they lose launch aid for the project, it might be 2015.

Thanks, SEA_Tigger for the info. I guess if the A350 doesn't launch, that order of 10 aircrafts would also go to B787!!

Probably, or they may choose A330-300s or A340s. I do not know their current fleet.
