Do we know if older Airbus aircraft will eventually be retrofitted with these new seats? They'll make coach a whole lot better ^ ByrdluvsAWACO May 4, 05, 1:39 pm I'd be willing to say eventually, but not immediately. It's cheaper to buy the leather seats with a new plane than to retrofit one in use. vholic May 4, 05, 4:04 pm Looks great! I can't wait to fly in one of these new planes. enviroian May 4, 05, 5:33 pm I agree, they look great. How about the F seats?? UAL123 May 4, 05, 6:11 pm Wow! A good looking airline seat. Nice job America West. snokums925 May 4, 05, 6:57 pm I'd be willing to say eventually, but not immediately. It's cheaper to buy the leather seats with a new plane than to retrofit one in use. Per the employee webcast last month, the coach cloth seats will not be retrofitted. Too much money! The good thing is that more new Airbi are on the way this year. ByrdluvsAWACO May 4, 05, 7:04 pm Can anyone vouch for the comfort of the new seats? I haven't had the chance to sit in them yet. formeraa May 4, 05, 8:40 pm WN's new leather seats are already falling apart! I flew WN last weekend and many seats were torn. tdb27 May 4, 05, 11:42 pm WN's new leather seats are already falling apart! I flew WN last weekend and many seats were torn. That's pretty weak, I guess they're more of a cloth airline. Still, at least they're trying (as opposed to LRTC). flyingcat May 5, 05, 1:12 am Sweet!! :) Looks like it is not only a new cover material but an entirely new model of seat. The armrests look different from the previous models. Have the seats in first changed at all? Are there any other cabin differences? ByrdluvsAWACO May 5, 05, 10:07 am Sweet!! :) Looks like it is not only a new cover material but an entirely new model of seat. The armrests look different from the previous models. Yes it is a different seat model. Have the seats in first changed at all? Are there any other cabin differences? No changes to the F seats, and no other cabin differences. AABOSSFO May 5, 05, 11:49 am Can anyone vouch for the comfort of the new seats? I haven't had the chance to sit in them yet. I recently flew on a plane w/ the seats and they seemed quite comfortable. The colors are also very soothing (particularly after a long weekend in Vegas :) ). KevAZ May 5, 05, 3:22 pm WN's new leather seats are already falling apart! I flew WN last weekend and many seats were torn. Mmmph, nrrpppph! I am struggling not to make a comment about the weight WN's seats have to take. CMK10 May 5, 05, 6:23 pm What are these coach seats? I'm an HP Elite I ride in the front! ;) Loony May 6, 05, 1:51 am Looks great! I can't wait to fly in one of these new planes. Does America West typically fly new planes on the LAX-LAS run? I'm booked on HP852 on May 15. Loony Lifer May 6, 05, 9:19 am WOW Byrd! Thanks so much for the pic! Looks very nice, its the first I've seen! I worked in YC all month April and was hoping to get the new A/C. For May, I'm back up front, so it won't make much difference to me! And Loony, they fly everything between LAX/LAS. You never know what you're gonna get! ByrdluvsAWACO May 6, 05, 3:51 pm WOW Byrd! Thanks so much for the pic! I can't take credit for shooting the picture itself. That goes to Jeremy over at CactusWings.com I'll just take credit for posting it where some HP fans could see it. Jaimito Cartero May 7, 05, 8:33 am The FC seats look nice as well. I flew on a new A320 (4th day in service) on Tuesday PHX-LAX. Ah, new plane smell. I was joking with the FC FA, and told him someone had graffittied ĻUS Air SucksĻ in the bano. I told him is was probably an employee. I have a weird sense of humor, in case you havenīt caught on yet. shell nyc May 9, 05, 6:25 am I really lucked out and got one of these new A320s on it's inaugural flight last night PHX-EWR. The Captain told us it had just flown in from the factory in France the night before. Very attractive and comfortable interior. The F seats were great, however as it was my first HP flight as well I cannot compare it to the old seats. This new aircraft was not without it's problems however; we had a 20 minute delay at the gate while they fixed a "water problem" in the F galley. There was also some audio/visual problems after the feature film that were corrected after resetting the system a few times. All in all though I would say it was a great first flight, for me AND the plane! Here are a couple of quick pictures I was able to snap before general boarding began: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v257/mcousin/HPA320.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v257/mcousin/HPA320seats.jpg (PM me if anyone wants the fullsize images) iahphx May 9, 05, 9:32 am Maybe they shouldn't have embossed that HP logo in the seats, though. :) ByrdluvsAWACO May 9, 05, 7:18 pm Maybe they shouldn't have embossed that HP logo in the seats, though. :) Yeah they should have. Let the world know what airline these seats are in. Thanks for posting those pics shell nyc. ^ shell nyc May 9, 05, 7:24 pm My pleasure. I will be in PHX next week as well, returning to EWR on US this time, so hope to write up a nice comparison of the two experiences...particularly of interest now that merger talks are become increasingly credible. While I promise to be fair and unbiased in every other respect, I can already declare HP the winner in the "cabin cleanliness" category. I don't forsee any brand spanking new A320s in US's immediate future! ;) Tedaz8 May 10, 05, 1:46 pm What are these coach seats? I'm an HP Elite I ride in the front! ;) Same here... I had a FA tell me some cRaZy story about the back of the plane having 6 seats across and you had to pay for your own meal! Crazy talk! Although I've always wondered what's behind row 3 and where all those other people go who board after I do..... enviroian May 12, 05, 10:38 am Lucky me last night--board flight 752, las-phx last night and lo and behold--the new 'bus! It definitely had a "new" smell to it. The F seats are great--very comfy with much more lower back support than other seats. The dark blue leather looks great too. I did immediately notice the now two-prong recepticle for the headphones. I anxiously plugged in my Bose headphones into either one of the jacks and it worked much to my relief. Even the f/a came around asking me about this and did it work. I told the f/a's how excited I was to be on this shiny new 'bus and I would make sure to tell everyone (that listens to me that is) on flyertalk about it! ^ tdb27 May 16, 05, 9:07 pm Yeah they should have. Let the world know what airline these seats are in. Thanks for posting those pics shell nyc. ^ I think that point was brought up over concerns that the airline is merging with US and eventually it will have to change it's name (and then the seats too). Maybe they'll get covered up with US gray cloth. UAL123 May 20, 05, 2:27 pm I think that point was brought up over concerns that the airline is merging with US and eventually it will have to change it's name (and then the seats too). Maybe they'll get covered up with US gray cloth. Yeah I assume they would change the logo somehow. ByrdluvsAWACO May 20, 05, 2:34 pm I think that point was brought up over concerns that the airline is merging with US and eventually it will have to change it's name (and then the seats too). I know you US folk are ready to bury the fact that HP ever existed, but I'm hoping the logo stays for as long as possible. LAX1K to AmWest May 22, 05, 2:27 pm I flew this last thursday from PHX to ONT. It is a nice aircraft.. the coach seats feel lower... which is not a bad thing.. but the top of the aircraft felt farther away... and much more roomy.. the seats were comfortable... and being in the exit row gave me the extra legroom ... what a comfy flight! They do have the logo, and that would be a great tribute to the airline that is going away :( (or changing its maiden name in this marriage) US AIRWAYS FAN May 22, 05, 3:51 pm I know you US folk are ready to bury the fact that HP ever existed, but I'm hoping the logo stays for as long as possible. Byrd, I donīt think most of us think that way at all. And I hope that US will have the America West brand fly as one of their express carriers. I hope you all write or call into US Airways Consumer affairs and suggest it. It can happen. I am going to make a phone call to US Airways Consumer Affairs (and write them too) to suggest it. 866.523.5333 then option 2 then option 4 or Consumer_Affairs@usairways.com LAX1K to AmWest May 22, 05, 4:50 pm Byrd, I donīt think most of us think that way at all. Although the new airline is going to be called US Airways, it is a combination of two existing airlines. One thing you have to remember is that America West is not going to be "disolved" into the current US Airways, a new low-cost carrier is being created in America West's image. I believe both Flight Fund and Dividend Miles (as well as US AIRWAYS CONSUMER AFFAIRS and America West) are all involved in satisfying the customer of this future airline. mbstone May 22, 05, 11:30 pm No changes to the F seats, and no other cabin differences. The Airbus F seats are roomy, but downright painful to sit in. US AIRWAYS FAN May 22, 05, 11:36 pm One thing you have to remember is that America West is not going to be "disolved" into the current US Airways, a new low-cost carrier is being created in America West's image. Yes but one thing you have to remember as well. Most consumers are not going to see it that way. People who are not "so informed" or only fly 1, 2, or 3 times a year are going to see the US image still around and not the America West image. Many are going to think it has been dissolved. That is why I am pushing people to write, and you should write or call both sides. I do not have HP's information. I would have posted it on here if I did. Most of us on here on FT know more about what is going on with airlines than most employees who work for the airline. We are informed because we dig up the dirt to find out. Many people just want to get from point A to point B and they are going to see that HP is gone from the skies. That is why I am pushing to at least have HP as an express carrier. At least you will hear that over the express gates ect. "US AIRWAYS EXPRESS FLIGHT XXXX OPERATED BY AMERICA WEST AIRLINES IS READY FOR BOARDING..." The name can live on just like US Airways does still use today Piedmont, PSA and one other I can't remember off the top of my head. Even when you pull the emergency card out of the seat pocket they still use the old PSA font on the card (that use to be on the plane itself.) The AW logo would probably be there. EnvoyBoy May 23, 05, 5:26 am The Airbus F seats are roomy, but downright painful to sit in. How so? I find US leather FC seats on Airbus planes more comfortable than UA cloth FC seats on the Airbus. I don't consider myself a "big" person but UA Airbus FC seats make me feel very "wide" when I sit in them. Robertsonland May 23, 05, 8:06 am Yes but one thing you have to remember as well. Most consumers are not going to see it that way. People who are not "so informed" or only fly 1, 2, or 3 times a year are going to see the US image still around and not the America West image. Big agreement here. My wife when I arrived home after the merger my wife said, "So is US Airlines buying HP going to affect you?" I responded with a "huh?" and asked her what she was talking about. She said from all the news reports she had seen, and the fact that America West was going away that US Airways had swallowed up HP. Uninformed consumers are definitely going to think US Airways runs the show. Lance ByrdluvsAWACO May 23, 05, 8:10 am I don't consider myself a "big" person but UA Airbus FC seats make me feel very "wide" when I sit in them. It could be worse. You could be in Y where the seats make you feel narrow. |
