SAN LEANDRO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 3, 2005--Protravelgear.com, the e-tail outlet of Outside the Box, Inc., is including a year's free BoomerangIt(SM) loss protection service with its new, high-end noise-canceling headset, the Solitude(TM).

The manufacturer of the highly successful Plane Quiet(TM) noise-canceling headphones recognizes that its next-generation must-have portable audio accessories are at risk of being lost while traveling or on the job. That is why buyers of the Solitude get 12 months free BoomerangIt service with their product registration.

"Solitude brings not only quiet, and with BoomerangIt, it also brings peace of mind," said BoomerangIt Founder Eddie Orton. "We have a million registered members and thousands of return customers. Those who have been reunited with their property know our system works, and they have become our greatest fans."

"Since we included the BoomerangIt service with our Solitude Noise Canceling headphones, product registration has soared to over 80%," said David Dillinger, executive vice-president of Outside the Box and a professional airline pilot who designed the Solitude. "It has also enhanced our ability to maintain crucial customer information and respond to their individual needs in a more efficient manner."

Because the Solitude uses the BoomerangIt service, its buyers will be more likely to retrieve it if they leave it behind or it is stolen. BoomerangIt makes the return process easy and efficient for items such as the more than 85,000 cell phones and 21,000 PDAs that were left behind at just one Chicago-based taxi company in six months, according to a recent global survey by mobile data protection company Pointsec Mobile Technologies.

Solitude headsets are packaged with a free BoomerangIt serialized ID label to be affixed to the item. To activate the free 12-month BoomerangIt service, consumers register the product online at www.solitudeheadsets.com. Additional labels for other valuable products are available at www.boomerangit.com.

BoomerangIt labels and tags from the BoomerangIt online store come in a variety of packages, starting at $9.95 for 10 years of protection. Solitude joins other popular consumer brands that have bundled BoomerangIt with their products, including Toshiba cameras, Palm handhelds, Memorex and Pioneer Electronics audio/video products, and luggage and bags from London Fog and High Sierra.

BoomerangIt offers the best chance for owners to get their lost or stolen item back. Anyone who finds the registered item can contact BoomerangIt online, or call 800-2Boomit (800-226-6648). Using the information from the product registration, BoomerangIt facilitates the return of the item to its rightful owner. The finder pays nothing, and receives a reward.

How do these compare with the Bose QC2? I find the web site to be atrocious. It's also almost completely content-free! It does come complete with SUPER-annoying background sounds that can not be turned off.

Why do companies insist on using Flash animation for their web sites?

The few reviews I was able to read before they were excised from the Travel Insider web site* pretty much said that the noise cancellation was no better than the Bose, and that the fidelity was inferior. Comfort was an issue, too; the earcups apparently place quite a bit of pressure against the sides of the head.

They are significantly cheaper, though.

* User reviews that fail to show PlaneQuiet/ProTravelGear products in a favorable light seem to have a short lifespan there.
