Word is this morning that Le Meridien is close signing a deal to anchor a downtown Bridgetown waterfront redevelopment project (a la Baltimore, MD) with a 200+ room hotel - http://www.nationnews.com/StoryView.cfm?Record=60176&Section=LO&Current=2005%2D05%2D02%2000%3A00%3A00 With the recent announcement that Starwood is buying Le Meridien this could mean that Starwood may soon have a second presence in the red hot eastern/southern Caribbean luxury market after the St. Regis on Anguilla. In the last few weeks there have been several announcements for luxury properties on Barbados including a Four Seasons at the former Paradise Beach Hotel, a Banyan Tree on an old sugar plantation in the north, and a Hyatt Regency in the south.

Le Meridien to manage new Hotel in Barbados

Le Méridien Hotels & Resorts has signed an agreement with Pierhead Project Investors Inc. to manage a 200-bedroom hotel in Barbados. Part of a new luxury waterfront development at the Pierhead in Bridgetown, Le Méridien Barbados is expected to open in 2010.
The five-star hotel, just 20 minutes from the airport, will be part of a mixed development project, which will also include 200 apartments, a 150-berth marina, tax-free shopping outlets, parking and a maritime museum.
According to Robert Riley, CEO of Le Méridien, “Being part of this important new development, which will also offer a choice of leisure and business facilities, represents a fantastic opportunity for Le Méridien. Currently there is a limited presence of international hotel brands on the island and we are delighted to have this opportunity to establish a Le Méridien hotel in Barbados.”
When completed, Le Méridien Barbados will offer banqueting for 500 guests, a marina restaurant, beach-side pool terrace and bar, health and fitness club, roof top bar, pool and dedicated parking.
