Hilton HHonors - Should I get stay credit/points?

Here is an interesting one:

I will be attending a meeting where the coordinator (a business) will be paying for the rooms. I know that they get a tremendous group rate discount. If I upgrade from the basic room that was paid for by the coordinator, will that entitle me to get stay credit/points for my stay?

I was at 2 similar meetings (same coordinator) in 2004. The first one I got credit (didnt ask for upgrade, etc), the second (didn't ask for upgrade, but I did spend a few dollars, on purpose so that I would have a balance at checkout), but I did not get credit.

So, is there an official policy or is it just a matter of luck?

It will all depend on the contract. Whoever is paying for it may be getting the points or they waived them to save money. If you book outside the block, you will get credit, but have too pay for the room. Unsure if you could expense that or not.
