Starwood Preferred Guest - Royal Orchid Sheraton: No suite upgrade for 1st time PLA!?!

Just made a reservation at the ROS in Bangkok and soon after called up reservation to put in my request for a suite upgrade.

I was effectively informed by the reservation desk that they have a policy (implemented two years ago) not to upgrade PLA members who are staying there for the first time. We would only be getting a upgrade to the next best room, and not the best available room i.e. a suite.

Has anyone had a different experience than this? Seems to be a practice contrary to the terms and conditions of SPG.

I'm planning to get as much info possible here before taking this up with the hotel manager.

Thanks.

Never heard of such a rule and it is contrary to SPG rules, I have stayed at quite some hotels for the first time and got immediately Suite upgrades, I would ask the question to Starwood Lurker, he certainly can help you

I have stayed there and got upgraded to a suite. That hotel is old and not all that. Stay at the SGS its much newer and nicer. Try one night at both and see what you think. However at SGS its harder to get a suite.

I stay there 4 or 5 times a year...have ALWAYS been offered a suite ( sometimes a junior with smaller living room, sometimes executive ). Never had to ask. They treat Platinum members very well.

Try the SGS. Great Plat treatment.

Dont worry if you dont get a suite.

Rooms are large.

Pleased to report that there is no such policy here at Royal Orchid. We are very proud of our delivery of benefits to Platinum members and will always upgrade if suites are available.
