Hi i live in the UK and i'd like to buy a Air power adapter for a Dell 6000 and i was wondering which is the best and were can i buy one?

I've just done a quick search on here and i'm wondering will the iGo EverywherePower 7500 work on my Laptop - we're travelling with AA this year.

Thanks for any advice.

The 7500 will work on your laptop. But one warning - it weighs a ton. The adapter part is a brick that weighs almost one pound. I picked one up, but am disappointed by its size, so I also picked up a 6500 series wall adapter to use when I don't need the on-aircraft adapter.

Do you have D6000 or a D600? I have D600 and use the Targus adapter.

I have one of these inspiron 6000s---but it is new. It has the same power adapter as my D600. Beware, these power adapters have a chip in them. If you buy an aftermarket brand like igo juice or targus or kensington, you may get power but it wont charge the battery. I went through two offbrand adapters before getting an official Dell universal AC/auto/air adapter that really works to power and charge the battery. It is bigger and heavier than a targus or igo, but it works.

Thanks i was hoping for something light @:-) but as long as it kept the battery topped up on the plane i'd be more than happy. Now which 1 is the lightest igo juice or targus or kensington?

I bought my Targus power source back in 2001 when I still had my IBM Thinkpad. Targus will send you the tips complimentary for laptops so I was willing to forgo battery charging. I just make sure I have a full charge before boarding. I also like my targus because I have the tips to charge several other appliances.

There is a Kensington ac/dc adapter at CompUSA for $50 after rebate but not sure if they'll send rebate out of USA.

I got the AC only adapter and it came with a complete set of tips and can power up to 90volt devices.

I remember the first time I took a business trip with an aftermarket AC/DC powersupply for my D600 for one week. I didn't know that it was not charging the battery. By the end of the week, my 2 batteries were dead and I could only run my computer while plugged in.

For me, it isn't worth the hassle. I would only get an official Dell so that I can charge the battery with it.

I stopped into a Laptop Lane at Ohare last week when I saw their sign that they have power tips to fit the new Dells for the IGO juice. The sales person warned me that it won't charge the battery--only power the computer.

I wanted to write a quick note to thank everyone who posted here, especially mikel51. As a new owner of a Inspiron 6000 (and somebody who flies from Houston to Thailand every month) you just saved me a lot of "trial and error", not to mention money!

Thanks. Off to dell.com... :-)
