I will be attending a convention in October in Las Vegas (at the convention center) and was wondering which hotel would be better. I have reservations at both the HGVC at the Las Vegas Hilton and the Emb Suites...room price for the duration is exactly the same. Whichever I don't use, a friend will.

Any comments / suggestions?

LV Hilton is an older property, and some of the rooms desperately need refurbished, but but it has the LV experience, with slots, etc. all around the hotel lobby, a large convention hotel with amenities like a spa, buffetts, etc. Plus, you can walk over to the Convention Center.

ES is newer, and just a plain, regular ES -- you could be anywhere in the country at an ES. More quiet, not really the LV experience. You will need a car or transportation back and forth.

If you want a quiet, tranquil place to rest in a larger suite -- ES.
If you want to see more of the LV action -- LV Hilton.

Can't speak for a stay at the Hilton, but I stayed at the ES next to the convention center and it's quite nice.

Breakfast is good, pool and jacuzzi are ok. Very quiet.

You don't necessarily need a car to go to the convention center ... it is about a 10 minute walk though. 20-25 minute walk will put you at the Hilton. A lot of cool stuff to do there, especially if you like Star Trek. There's a skywalk from the convention center to the Hilton, so it's a nice indoor walk if you want to get there.

About a 15 min walk to the strip if you don't have a car either.

I'd strongly consider renting a car there, especially if you want to do stuff. Cabs in Vegas are expensive.

The Hilton Grand Vacations is substantially further away from the South Hall than the ES. If you are in the North Hall, the HGV might be about the same.
I liked the ES for my convention a year ago, but now with the monorail being right outside the Star Trek stuff at the Hilton, transportation will be much easier from the HGV. That being said, cabs can be expensed, and the ES does offer free shuttles to the strip. The ES has a good breakfast, and decent free happy hour.

I prefer the HGVC. I can walk to the Hilton for the Vegas stuff and then get away from it quickly, back at the HGVC. The rooms are very nice and a lot bigger then the ES. It is at the very end of the strip so as someone earlier mentioned, you will have to drive or take the monorail.

I just got back from the HGVC on the Strip and it was really nice. A bit far from the convention center for my trip in October, but my first time in the HGVC and I really liked it. I think I'll probably stay at the HGVC in the Hilton...it'll be easy to get around with the new monorail link too.
