Air New Zealand Air Points - O/T: where to stay in the Coromandel

Off for a short weekend to the Coromandel - does have anyone have any recommendations for a really nice place to stay (one night only).

I have not personally been there for 17 years. If you are going for one night from AKL, I would suggest chartering a plane or helicopter to take you there, otherwise it is quite a trek IMO for one night.

I make an annual trip to Cooks Beach in the Coromandel, my family have a very rustic bach there. I think that area is really nice, however their is nothing to do there except, swim, walk, fish, dive, relax, read, eat, drink, play tennis, explore.

Where abouts on the Coromandle Pensiual are you looking at staying? I come from there so may be able to help. :)

Pauanui may be the trendiest place to stay but it is far from the nicest IMHO - like a flashy bit of expensive suburbia relocated onto the Coromandel. I much prefer Hahei / Cooks beach. However, you can't go too far wrong on the Coromandel really - it's all pretty beautiful.

Opito Bay.......without question.

Opito is lovely but a bit bleak I find, plus if you do fancy nipping to a cafe for dinner or breakfast it's a long drive on a gravel road.

I guess I'm showing my Taihape roots again. I always considered the trip over the blackjack a major benefit. :) ........

And with fresh snapper for breakfast, crayfish / scalllops (in season) and a bottle or 2 of SavB for lunch / dinner, who needs cafe's. :D
