I'm planning to use 15,000 points for a 2-night Opportunity class award at the Hampton Inn Ann Arbor-South. It seems to be a pretty good bargain considering its close to where I want to go (U of Michigan Business School) and offers free breakfast and high speed wireless internet as well.

I've never stayed at a Hampton Inn before, just at Hiltons and Conrads - what can I expect as a HH Gold at this property? From seeing their website, it seems that they don't have any upgraded rooms (and obviously, no exec lounge). Would they be willing to do an early 11am checkin?

its beem rare for me to get an early at HI, Im Diamond, they are usually pretty full these days. I can usually get a a couple of hrs extra as a late check-out but even that is subject to their capacity for that coming evening.

No executive lounge at this (or any) Hampton Inn. Of course, breakfast is free for everyone, so it's largely irrelevant at this point.

As a Gold, your expectation should be the Hampton Touch - a snack and some water - and that's it. Otherwise, I stayed there a couple of years ago, and found it to be fine. It's right across the street from the big mall in Ann Arbor, and there are some restaurants in the vicinity.

I noticed this has now changed from 7,500 points per night to a 20,000 per night hotel. Skipped right over the 10,000 per night.

And so NOT worth it. Hampton Inn North also is 20,000 per night. When we stayed at the South last year the bed was hard as a rock, the breakfast was awful and we just didn't like it at all. Wish there were other alternatives for visiting UM.

Is it by any chance a seasonal college football adjustment?

Probably not. It was New Opportunity as of the invention of the category & I stayed there Nov. 1/ 2004 during football season at that rate.
In Aug. 2005 I was so surprised to see this change when I tried to book for Oct.

If you also have Marriott points, the Courtyard Inn a block away is Cat. 2 = 10K for 1 night, 27K for 3.

There is an HGI in Plymouth. Also a Level 2, but a pretty new hotel. Website says that it is 16 miles from U of M Stadium.

Stayed a few times now at this property, staff has always been swift and pleasant. I find this property a slight step up compared to other HI's, for instance having an armoire in the room as opposed to an open area with a clothes hanger bar.

The Hampton breakfast doesn't compare with what you'll get at a Hilton, nothing cooked to order, but if all you want is juice, coffee and a bagel it'll be fine.

There's also a North Hampton Inn at the Plymouth Road exit off of US23 and it isn't that much farther to the U of M biz school.

About 3 years too late :p

I did stay there back then, and it was a great use of 15K points. They did an early checkin, but I don't remember much more of the stay.

Hi all,

Bumping this thread to see if anyone has thoughts on HI Ann Arbor-North. I will be there for one night in April and the South property is coming up as "unavailable" for this Silver. Location is fine for where I'll be, other thoughts?

Don't know if you have diversified on your points, but the 4 Points across the street is a much better award value, IMHO. Either 3K or 4K SPG.

I was recently in the South one. Looked remodeled, at least the room I was in.

Never been in the North one.

It's not a bad location. The gym or what passes for it is tiny and badly ventilated. On the other hand the free breakfast is decent, the rooms are up to Hampton standard and the wireless works.

Been to all on "Boardwalk" - Hampton is a typical Hampton - the Holiday Inn Select is a bit better, but I recommend the Sheraton 4 Points across the street

Thanks, everyone, for your input. I don't have SPG points at all so not worried about that. And I usually try to use gyms but I likely won't be here long enough for this one. Sounds like it'll be fine for my short stay.

Stayed at the Victors Way (Hampton South Ann Arbor) this past weekend. My room appeared to have been redone, and the lobby was just about completed on the refurb. Looks like the whole place has been updated, although I did not check out the gym or pool. The breakfast area appeared newly redone, and all employees I encountered were gracious; the wi-fi worked well. I would stay there again.

I stayed here at the beginning of 2008. At night it can be a little hard to follow Mapquest directions in Ann Arbor but I was very pleased with the hotel and would stay again gladly.
