MilesBuzz! - Best Way to use US or DL miles for Ghana

Hello FTers,

I am a relatively inexperienced international traveler and am interested in using my FF miles for an award ticket to Ghana. A recent college grad at our church is going to Ghana for some assistance work. I have approx. 110K US miles and approx. 90K DL miles.

Do you any of you FTers have information on what US or DL partners fly there? Thanks in advance for your assistance.

For US Airways the Award possibilities are best with Swissair or Sabena. Both will cost you 100k miles in economy or 155k in Business Class from the US to the African destinations shown below.

Swissair award destinations in Africa:
Abidjan, Accra, Banjul, Cairo, Casablanca, Dakar, Dar es Salaam, Douala, Harare, Kinshasa, Lagos, Libreville, Malabo, Nairobi, Tunis Yaounde


Sabena award destinations in Africa:
Abidjan, Bamako, Banjul, Casablanca, Conakry, Cotonou, Dakar, Douala, Entebbe, Kigali, Kinshasa, Lagos, Lome, Luanda, Ouagadougou, Yaounde

You say you have 110k in your US account. For the distance of these flights, I'd look for the additional 45k to get a Business Class award. Maybe convert points from a hotel or Amex card???

You probably should post on the DELTA and US Air boards for more help.

Also, going to the respective web sites will list the up to date partners, the cost for flights, etc.

I go to Ghana on DL & AF (via cdg), well almost. You can get to Abidjan (ABJ) or Lagos (LOS) Then you'll pay r/t of about $200 to Accra.

You can redeem DL miles for an AF ticket. Look at partner awards on their website.

I'm not sure 90K will cover it. I usually by seperate tickets from here to CDG, then CDG- Africa, it comes out cheaper. You could use your US miles to europe, and DL miles from there.
