We are over in the UK a couple of times a year and an extra phone would be nice. I keep an old tracfone here in the US for friends that come over. For $20 they can activate it and get 40 min local time. And now Tracfone has international calling and rates that beat hotel rates. It's a good deal for little use/emergency use. It should read: "..for friends and customers from Europe.." Sorry about the confusion. A friend told me that pre-paid phones are very cheap in Germany. http://www.mediamarkt.de/ And UK should even be cheaper... apx068 Apr 26, 05, 4:07 pm Can you explain how to do this? We are over in the UK a couple of times a year and an extra phone would be nice. Hi there, If you're in the UK just buy a pay as you go phone. They really are quite cheap. The cheapest ones cost GBP19.99 and you can get pretty good camera phones for unger GBP50. Here's an example of what you can get: http://shop.vodafone.co.uk/index.cfm?fuseaction=home.viewHandsetDetails&action=getHandsetDetails&contract_type=PAYT&productID=270&producttype=1&itemSKU=PTSA13 Curiously, the prices online are generally more than you can find in the physical shops! (is there any other industry where THAT is true now?) Alternatively, you can get a pay-as-you SIM card for between GBP4 & GBP10 more or less anywhere in the UK. If your US phone is a triband GSM it'll just work. Check the charger can handle 240volts though! Have fun, Jason |
