Travel Technology - Electrical shocks from iPod

Has anyone get any electrical shocks from iPods?
I docked my iPod to the Bose SoundDock and when I want to lift it (barefoot by the way - if that matters) I get some shocks from the back side of my iPod. Tried it again, wearing sandals - it didn't sting anymore.

I have not experienced that! I have an iPod iSkin for mine...

Seriously... it stings every time I touch it barefoot.
If I stop posting this next few days, would someone please raise an alert ... :D

Ok, then that isn't good. Does it happen when the ipod is on its own charger?
If not then the Bose might be defective. Be careful...

It happens when I stand barefoot (on marble floors). When I sit with my feet up on my couch or standing with my sandals on, it does not sting.
Seems like I am not the only one to get shocks from an iPod (learnt about this site from nmenaker ^)

But they got it not when docked on a Bose it seems.
I just tried: on its own charger it does not sting under the same conditions.
What is a 'bad ground' and a 'ground fault' by the way?

You can test for bad ground and reverse polarity, etc. on your electric outlets by buying a little plug in tester at a hardware store for about $5. It's worth it.
Sometimes the ground wire doesn't get connected on an outlet or the hot and neutral wires get reversed. I suspect you've got a grounding problem and you become the ground when barefoot. The tester can show with colored LED's if the plug is OK or there's a problem. I once had a high failure rate on PC's in an office and it came down to reversed polarity. Strange but true.

Thanks for the input. Although I don't completely understand what you explained, seems like I should have an electrician check my place out.
StarG: Does your docking station come with a 2- or 3-prong AC plug? If it is the former, the grounding/reverse polarity issues mentioned in this thread would not be relevant and the fault (if any) would likely lie in the docking station itself and not the electrical wiring.

The Bose SoundDock comes with 2- and 3- prong AC plugs but I was using the 2-prong (normal in Jakarta) one the whole time.

well there you go. you were in indonesia :) j/k
my most painful dial up experience ever was trying to send back a report to corporate from a villa in Bali.
no local dialup number so calling jakarta from bali and getting a 12.6 or 9.6 connection and then using a VPN dear god.
Seriously though, I find that in Asia when I am charging devices, sometimes I can feel the current if ever slightly if I have my laptop in my lap. Uncomfrtable and I have to cover my legs. i don't know why? Perhaps it is going from 3 prong to 2.

Sounds familiar... :)
Starbucks outlets in Jakarta has Wi Fi now. Wonder if the same is standard in Denpasar as well. If yes, that may be a good alternative than connecting through Jakarta dialup.
