Recently I did an award stay at the Melbourne's Hilton on the Park. BTW, I had a very nice stay and the hotel is NOT as bad as some reports here. I did get upgraded to a 1 room corner suite(huge) with a wonderful view of the Fitzroy Gardens and CBD from the side window and the Yarra and Melbourne parks from the front windows. There were few scratches on furniture and the bathrooms was little outdated, but everything was very clean and I didn't see any carpet stains, either in my suite, the 14th floor hallways or the lobby as reported here. I also received a free continental breakfast in the Cafe , but no lounge access.

Anyway, back to my question. The total room and other charges was just over $122AUS. Today I checked my HHonors account and it shows that the charges were just over $233US(~$300AUS) and I was given the appropriate points for that amount. I just called the hotel and was assured by the manager on duty that they don't show any other charges above the ones I paid upon checkout.

I don't mind the points and I will check with my HHonors and CC once I receive my statements, but does anybody have any idea how this happened?

I was on an award stay in Rome a couple of months ago. A folio amount of $43 showed up, and I was given the appropriate points for it. However, since I didn't spend anything, I questioned the hotel.

The long and short is: the amount never showed upon any credit card bill, the hotel had no idea how it got there, and the points stayed in my account.

My suggestion: check with your CC company to find out what was really charged. If it's correct, you win a few free points. If it's wrong, then you have some work to do.

Ah yes the good old points for the listed "rack rate" on reward stay. :D
It has happened to me more than twice within the last few years the last as recently as 3/18, " Diamond force" stay at the Cavalieri folio 35 euro.
Got 13500 points and 500 miles. Amount matched almost exactly the listed penalty for late cancellation of the stay, as denoted on my confirmation.
Enjoy!!!
