I thought I'd share an anecdote of a recent flight I had out of PHX to SLC.

We were told before takeoff by the FA that we were flying in one of HP's newest Airbuses (A320 I believe). And believe me, you could tell! Not a single scratch on the exterior paint job, the inside (at least in F) was immaculate, and it almost had that 'new plane smell.'

The F FA (Unfortunately, I forgot her name already) told us that it was currently the pride of the fleet and it had only been in service for 13 days. She pointed out to us the leather seating (done in standard HP blue w/ logo) extended all the way to the rear of the plane.

She said that HP execs noted that one of the reasons (some) people prefer JetBlue was because of their all leather seating and they hoped that by getting leather seating in Y on the new Airbuses it would entice them to come over to HP.

In her opinion (and mine too) it was a thousand times better than those old 727s they used to fly, and she said it seemed to increase crew morale as they no longer had to feel embarassed over the condition of their aging equipment.

I should have gotten the tail number, but I forgot once I stepped out into the terminal in SLC. I did not forget, however, to scribble my handle, flight number, and www.flyertalk.com on pg 15. ;)

Has anybody else spotted the newest additions to the fleet?

I think you/her meant 737-200's. HP never flew 727's.

I heard that 676AW was new also. Is that plane in service yet? I'd love to fly on one of them in the very near future.

Leather seats are also way easier to clean than the cloth ones, which is why so many of the LCC have them now. Plus they last longer and wear better.

Any idea if these new seats will be retrofitted into the rest of the fleet? I hope so the cloth seats are so passe. :D

I hae not heard of N676AW coming online yet and the FAA registratrion site just shows the registration number reserved, but not yet in service.

Hey, one every couple of months lets us keep commenting on new aircraft. That's a good thing. :p

Per the webcast the other day, the rest of the fleet will not be retrofitted with the leather seats. Right now, it is too cost prohibitive.
N676AW has not been put in service yet. Doug said that we are getting 11 new Airbi this year. We have already gotten 3, so 11 more to come throughout the year.

Ooops. I did mean 737s. Nice catch.

I suppose I really shouldn't be posting to FT during a break from an all-nighter at the office. :)
