Over on the US forum there is mention that WN is trying to buy HP out of LAX T1 in order to get their gates. They want HP to move to T6 which would put HP at a disadvantage for growth as that terminal is dominated by UA and CO. There would also be no lounge for HP unless the start an agreement with CO's Presidents Club.

OK, I'm going to need my flame-proof suit for this, but......
I, for one, would LOVE for this to happen. I fly UA a lot for international and would like to be able to connect to HP flights without having to trek across the airport with luggage in tow. Last night I had to take a UX RJ LAX-PHX because my flight from ORD didn't get in with enough time for me to claim my bags and make it to T1. Instead I had to endure a 3 hour layover, an RJ, and not getting home until after midnight. Had HP been in T6 I could have easily made the connection and flown in F. I'm not sure if HP and UA can interline bags, but if they can this would be even better....
Also, I wouldn't call T6 "dominated" by any one airline as CO has a few gates, DL has a few gates, and UA has a bunch of gates that don't get used a lot. T6 is also connected to T7 and T8 after security and there is a much wider array of shops and dining between those three terminals.
Best of all.... T6 has a smoking area :)
T1 is a DUMP!

I thought so, but I had less than 35 minutes to connect so I was concerned that I might make the flight (depending on the security situation at T1) but my baggage probably wouldn't make it all the way around in time.

I would be happy not to have to go through the monster security line at LAX. While it would be a little further from my normal connections (NW), I'd probably go for it.

Something's gotta give... Either US Airways or America West Airlines needs to go from Terminal One. Or both. From an armchair perspective, it seems simple to say US Airways should be the one to go. If they went to T6, it would facilitate connections with UA without reclearing security. It would be nice if America West could then take over US Airways' ticket counter positions-- rebuilt with a long line of kiosks-- and the lounge space.

EXACTLY! One reason why I do everything in my power not to fly HP out of LAX. Plus, leaving T1 would get HP away from the WN riff raff ;)

I, for one, would welcome HP moving out of Trailer Park 1 . . . I mean, Terminal 1. It has turned into the worst HP terminal in the system.

Trailer Park 1... I love it!
Anyhow, yes, I'd love HP to get out of Trailer Park 1 and move to any of the other terminals. Another bonus if they move out of there... first class/elite line at the (in)security checkpoint in the other terminals.

I never have any problems at Terminal One. Of course, I always fly out in the evening when there aren't long lines. It has become a little less comfortable since the US Airways Club closed, though it wasn't that nice of a lounge. It always had plenty of space and few other passengers, though!

I agree - that terminal has some of the largest fliers in the US (therefore the world) WN isn't known as the "Heifer Hauler" for nothing!
I got the inside scoop on WN being nasty to HP regarding not allowing an Elite line for screening. Best thing that can happen for us HP business travelers is to move to anywhere else in LAX.

Oh, please, let us move out of T1.
T1 is not the terminal I prefer to wait for three hours on flights in from Asia, red-eyed and unshaven, before my flight home to Phoenix.

Terminal Two is great... it works very well. I can get in and out of it quickly. The $5 parking in the structure is a great deal and extremely convenient.

Is there really any terminal with the gate space necessary for HP's operations. I am not sure how many gates HP has now but I know they are trying to get more so really can any other terminal fit them. Would any airline be willing to give them to HP?

Maybe the original poster got things mixed up because HP uses four gates right now in T1 and is seeking MORE gates. Supposedly, T6 has just two gates available, so that would mean HP couldn't even fly its current schedule out of LAX.
Now if CO were to leave T6, then I guess HP could end up with more gates (as well as a club), but no one's saying that.
Again, HP wants to grow at LAX, not shrink. And given the rumors of the past few days of some sort of deal involving HP and US, maybe neither will end up having to move!

Madrid or Mothers Against Drunkdriving?
That's MADrid not MADD(Mothers Against Drunk Driving). There's no such word as Drunkdriving. :p
Despite the convience of those connecting to UA, T6 offers little for HP. As I said before, there are only two gates that can be fully dedicated to HP. The ticket counters would most likely be small, and there is no club potential.
The only way this move could benefit HP is if UA were to close up shop in T6. That would give HP up to eight full time gates. However, I don't see that happening any time soon. UA isn't going to give up gates for HP's expansion.
Also, the idea of WN getting T1 all to themselves just rubs me the wrong way.
And what's up with this "T1 is a dump" nonsense? Have any of you been to T3? At lease T1 has a more open feel which is better than PHX or LAS. The only thing that makes T1 a dump is WN and all their trashy pax.

Hardly a positive feature . If HP moved in, hopefully they could convince LAX to close it and put the space to better use. Let the smokers go outside and puff their cancer sticks. :p

The area is outside on a fenced in terrace along one side of the terminal where it meets the rotunda. Given the state of the security lines at T1 going out through security isn't much of an option.

I only fly the 3 in 1 when I have no other options. Being at LAX a couple times a week, T1 frequently has lines outside. Aside from not being safe... Lines are for rollercoasters, and I am not looking forward to a loop in a 737.

Wow. Your comments never cease to amaze me. Hopefully it won't take the legal system to tell you there is such a thing as drunk driving... Also, what makes you think Southwest passengers are trashy? America West's customers aren't exactly society's elite.

LOL! It is frequently called the Heifer Hauler, sometimes for the cattle call loading process, but also due to the additional 75lbs their customers have over most airlines' fliers.
My last flight with them was due to a "Groundhog Day" like situation where I got stuck next to the same 600lb+ woman two Fridays in a row xLAX to PHX. She went in the middle - the poor guy in the window seat was the same guy too! When I plopped down next to him the second Friday, I asked him if he had seen Ground Hog Day. He said, "Oh sh**, I hope the f*** not!" A minute later, floooomp! Down went the front of the plane and here she came again! I had to use an extended belt so I could lift the aisle arm up and slide 2" of my left butt cheek onto the remainder of my seat. I couldn't believe that the FAs allowed take off with me nearly in the aisle, but it happened two weeks in a row back in 1999. I went to HP and have never once flown WN again. That's 400 segments/yr they lost. And I am extremely happy with America West.
Mooooooo! :D

I must say, as an HP employee I think WN is doing a great job...at what they do. If you want inflights singing and making jokes during the safety demonstration, throwing bags of peanuts and rolling cans of Coke down the aisle when you take off and call that the beverage service (yup, saw it happen on the ONE time I flew standby on WN), no assigned seats and a frequent flier program that only allows travel on WN, then go for it.
If you like professional inflights that dress and act the part, food for sale on board, assigned seats, first class upgrades and a very generous Flightfund program that allows travel on BA, QF, NW, RJ and others...then stick with HP.
Is any airline perfect? Not a chance. But I will tell you this--HP employees bust their butts just as much as WN employees do...and our frequent fliers appreciate it.

I've had to fly on southwest for 3 segments in the past few years. The first two segments were early and late and didn't much care for the cattle call approach but I was an early to the airport type so I always got a choice seat.
The last time was last year when my flight was cancelled from LAS - PHX and HP booked me on WN to get me home. Now my HP flight usually took off about 7pm and got in around 8:00p but left on time about .000000001% of the time so we were always getting in around 8:45p at the earliest. Now my flight from DFW into LAS always got in about 5pm and that day we were early so as soon as we were off the plane they told everyone but F pax to go to ticketing and they would arrange other flights. For F pax they told us to go to pax assistance and they would help us. I got there and they had a flight that left at 6:30 to PHX and booked u tix on that and gave us a check and sent us to the SW tix counter. We got over to the terminal and the 5:30 had been delayed so we did standby and left at 6:15 and got home at 7pm. Regarding the service, the one thing I did like was they came around and got our drink order and gave us our peanuts or whatever it was. Then when the flight took off, they got up and had our drinks to us in about 10 minutes. They even served a second round of drinks then we landed and all was well.
I've been on HP where I didn't even get a drink because the service was held up with slow people deciding what they wanted and they had to end service because we were on final.
Now in comparison, I think that WN FAs are laid back, and tend to have fun with their job. I also think there are some HP FAs that are the same way. Although since I fly HP more I see alot more of them that seem to have sticks up their butt and truly seem to like asserting their authority over people. I'm sure it's a limited few that are like that and I'm sure there are FAs from every airline that are like this, since I fly HP alot I see it there alot. But I didn't have any problem with the WN FAs or their attitude towards their job.
There are many reason for not wanting to fly WN but from my minute experience it wouldn't be the FAs.
And HP has some hefty people flying their airline as well. HP is my no means a "skinny" people airline... :)

I can't be 100% sure about this, but I've heard that Terminal One at LAX offers the fastest ground times because the Tower will usually route you to the less crowded runway on that side of the field, as opposed to more congested runways elsewhere at LAX. If that's the case, it would be a strong incentive for HP to stay put.
Other than the security lines (which do move pretty quickly, from my limited experience), there's nothing "wrong" with Terminal One. Pretty standard amenities, and doesn't feel like a zoo once you get past security. I just wish I owned that McDonalds franchise there. Given the prices they charge and the volume they do, I'd guess it's more profitable than any airline at LAX!
