Can you change seat assignments online? It only lets me see the itinerary and print a receipt, but maybe I'm not in the right place. I have already made the reservation, but want to monitor the seat map to see if anything better opens up.

Thanks!

No, you can't. Such functionality is not currently available on America West's web site. :(

If you check in on-line 24 hours in advance of your first flight you have the opportunity to change seats on both your outbound and return flights. Granted, it's likely pretty late by that point, but I suppose it is better than nothing.

Call it a guess, but I would think that being able to allow passengers to actually view and manipulate the seat map just might have negative security implications.

You'd think, especially these days. However, most major airlines and the major booking engines like Expedia offer this ability. If you buy a HP ticket via Expedia you can do it. If you buy one direct from HP, you can't. So, I'd say it has more to do with an IT system issue than it does security.

Actually this isn't the reason why. It's because the assignments are "close as possible" and not exact. HP has an internal application that allows employees to see true seating based on aircraft that are "hard" allocated to that flight. That's why you sometimes see problems with seats being different than what people were told when they purchased. It's all part of being flexible to keep costs down.

I also think it is a software issue on HP's part. Look for the new website before long...

KevAZ, can you elaborate on this? I don't understand.

Unfortunately I can't, I work for an AWA vendor. It's a result of their fleet flexibility, but they recognize the customer demand and it's on their task list. But will be bigger than just changing a couple of things on their web site.
