Hi everyone,

I had a quick question to run by the regulars here. I think I know the answer but you guys offer an insight that I don't have a lot of the time...

I'm flying from the Bay Area to ORD on US and then back to SFO via PHL.
Flight details below...

Itinerary Date Flight Fare Class
8:09A Depart (OAK)
11:36A Arrive (DEN) May 7 US Airways 6290 L

12:37P Depart (DEN)
3:59P Arrive (ORD) May 7 US Airways 6229 L

2:10P Depart (ORD)
5:10P Arrive (PHL) May 10 US Airways 296 T

6:10P Depart (PHL)
9:27P Arrive (SFO) May 10 US Airways 15 T

I was wondering whether i'd be able to retain any of the value of the ticket if I chose not to fly the PHL-SFO portion or if I chose not to fly any of the return...I say this because I was trolling the student universe and bought a cheap fare to Rome ($213OW :D ).

Any advice is welcomed.

Thanks,
O

If your ticket is priced as a roundtrip fare instead of two one-way fares put together, the return has no value other than for travel between ORD-SFO once you use the outbound.

Now, if your ticket happened to be two one-way fares put together, then you can apply the value of ORD-SFO to another itinerary.

The way to check is to obtain the fare basis for each way and see if you can pull up a one-way fare matching that fare basis. If not, then your fare is a roundtrip fare.
